The test elements have an electrode-support substrate including a spacer having an edge defining a boundary of a capillary channel. The electrode-support substrate also includes a first electrode pair and a second electrode pair, wherein the first electrode pair is positioned between the second electrode pair. The method includes dosing the test sensor with the fluid sample; applying a signal to the first electrode pair and the second electrode pair, detecting a first response to the signal from the first electrode pair, and detecting a second response to the signal from the second electrode pair; determining a time period between the first response and the second response and then applying a measurement test sequence for an analyte of interest on the fluid sample if the time period is less than a first predetermined threshold.

Systems and methods for multiple analyte analysis are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes determining concentrations of first and second analytes in a sample. The first and second analytes may be, for example, glucose and hydroxybutyrate. In this form, an indication related to the measured concentration of hydroxybutyrate is provided in response to determining that the concentration of hydroxybutyrate is above a predetermined value. In a further aspect of this form, a quantitative indication representative of the measured glucose concentration is automatically provided regardless of the value of the measured glucose concentration. In another embodiment, a system includes a meter configured to interact with a test element to assess first and second analytes in a sample. Systems and methods for multiple analyte analysis

A biosensor container comprising a housing defining an internal glucose test strip compartment. The housing has an engagement portion for retaining a detachable means for storing data, and the means for storing data has data stored thereon specific to a batch of glucose test strips. At least one of the housing and the means for storing data includes at least one data reading element that is externally accessible when the means for storing data is retained by the engagement portion of the housing. The container includes various fail safe features to prevent mishandling and insure the user obtains the correct results. The housing includes means for connecting to the bG meter only when the means for storing data is retained by the housing. The housing further includes means for dispensing glucose test strips only when the housing is in either of an attached-to meter mode or a stand-alone mode. In the attached-to-meter mode the means for storing data is retained by the housing and the housing is connected to a bG meter. In the stand-alone mode the means for storing data is detached from the housing and the housing is not connected to the bG meter.

Biosensor container

Assembly and method for measuring the concentration of an analyte in a biological matrix. The assembly includes an implantable optical-sensing element that comprises a body, and a membrane mounted on the body in a manner such that the membrane and the body define a cavity. The membrane is permeable to the analyte, but is impermeable to background species in the biological matrix. A refractive element is positioned in the cavity. A light source transmits light of a first intensity onto the refractive element, and a light detector receives light of a second intensity that is reflected from the cavity. A controller device optically coupled to the detector compares the first and second light intensities, and relates the intensities to analyte concentration.

If a valid association is established, the registry ( ) provides an activation code to the meter ( ), enabling meter ( ) to conduct testing during a subscription period. The meter ( ) thereafter validates the ROM circuit ( ) association on power up, so that ROM circuit ( ) may only be used with meter ( ), thereby discouraging fraudulent conveyance of ROM circuit ( ) and test strips ( ).
