Methods of reducing oxidative damage to an eye of a subject are provided. Aspects of the method include intravitreal injection an antioxidant composition consisting essentially of a non-reducing sugar or a hydrate thereof. In some embodiments, the non-reducing sugar is trehalose. The methods can further include surgical removal of at least a portion of the subject's vitreous humor during a vitrectomy. Also provided are ophthalmic compositions, kits and pre-loaded injection devices for use in vitrectomy surgery which find use in the subject methods.

Ophthalmic compositions and methods for reducing oxidative damage to an eye lens

Polymeric compositions are provided that include a poly(ethylene glycol), a viscoelastic polymer, and an antioxidant, where, in polymerized form, the compositions have a refractive index of about 1.30 to about 1.40. Methods of synthesizing the compositions are also provided and include the steps of heating an amount of water, adding a buffering agent to the water to form a buffer solution; mixing a poly(ethylene glycol) and a viscoelastic polymer into the buffer solution to form a reactive mixture; adding a plurality of antioxidant particles to the reactive mixture; and removing suspended gas bubbles from the reactive mixture. Methods of preventing oxidative damage to an eye lens of a subject are further provided and include administering the foregoing polymeric compositions to the eye lens of the subject.

A composition comprises an anti-nucleolin agent conjugated to nanoparticles, and optionally containing gadolinium. Furthermore, a pharmaceutical composition for treating cancer comprises a composition including an anti-nucleolin agent conjugated to nanoparticles, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The composition enhances the effectiveness of radiation therapy, enhancing contrast in X-ray imaging techniques, and when gadolinium is present, provide cancer selective MRI contrast agents.

Anti-nucleolin agent-conjugated nanoparticles as radio-sensitizers and MRI and/or X-ray contrast agents

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a method for synthesizing self-assembling nanoparticles with defined plasmon resonances. More particularly, certain embodiments disclosed herein relate to an improved method for synthesizing self-assembling gold nanoparticles by dialyzing samples during the self-assembly process or in presence of a surface to reduce certain subpopulations.
