Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system for controlling a multi-cell battery. In one embodiment of the present invention, a stack of bipolar wafer cells may be connected in series. Each cell may have an area that may be expandable in response to pressure. Such an area may be aligned with a corresponding area of at least one adjacent cell. The invention further includes a trigger mechanism that may be responsive to a force created by pressure generated in a cell in the stack of bipolar cells.

The subject invention relates to electrode structures that are adaptable for primary and electrically rechargeable electrochemical wafer cells. A flat wafer cell is disclosed that includes conductive, carbon-filled polymeric outer layers that serve as electrode contacts and as a means of containment of the cell. Multi-cell, higher voltage batteries may be constructed by stacking individual cells. Specially formulated electrodes and processing techniques that are compatible with the wafer cell construction are disclosed for a nickel-metal hydride battery system. This invention is further directed to fabrication of electrodes from electrochemically active material prepared by coating non- to low-conductive particles of a metal hydroxide or metal oxide powder with nickel using a electroless nickel coating process. A casing for holding a key in one of two pivoted positions. The key pivots about an axis extending along one edge thereof when a lock is turned by the user of the key. An indicator may be attached to the key for extension through a small opening in the casing or housing when the key is in one position and for retraction below the level of the casing periphery when the key is in the opposite position. In a second embodiment, a portion of the casing may be pierced along three edges and arranged so that, when the key is in one position, the pierced portion is pushed above the casing periphery and, when the key is pivoted to the second position, the pierced portion is coextensive with or below the casing periphery. The output of an auxiliary sensor, such as a magnetometer or metal detector, is recorded along side a sonar trace record, such as from a side scan sonar or sonar sub-bottom profiler, using the same recorder mechanism. In one embodiment, the added information permits correlation on the same chart between sonar generated impressions and local magnetic field disturbances such as produced by magnetically susceptible objects located on or below the seabed. The terminal current of a main secondary battery is continuously monitored throughout charging and discharging by a system having a monitor cell, such as a metal gas battery, and having circuitry for conforming monitor cell terminal current in sense, and proportionally in magnitude, to the main battery terminal current. Apparatus responsive to the monitor cell state of charge may provide sensible output indication of main battery state of charge or control charging/discharging of the main battery.
