A laboratory storage cabinet, including a cabinet housing, which delimits a storage space inside the cabinet housing from an outer surrounding area of the storage cabinet, wherein the cabinet housing has an air lock, which allows the transport of material between an inner transfer position, situated in the storage space, and an outer transfer position, situated in the outer surrounding area, wherein the storage space contains a storage device for receiving material at defined storage positions, and wherein the storage space contains a material-handling device for transporting material between the inner transfer position and the storage device, wherein, in a wall of the cabinet housing, the air lock has an air-lock opening, which passes through the wall, the air lock having a rotary element, which is mounted rotatably about an axis of rotation in relation to the cabinet housing and has at least one loading formation, which is fitted in the air-lock opening in such a way that the loading formation can be moved between the inner transfer position and the outer transfer position by rotation of the rotary element about the axis of rotation.

The present invention relates to a method of loading a sample storage device () for a plurality of sample carriers (A-E) equipped with sample containers (), said method comprising: during removal of sample containers () from the sample storage device (): providing at least one output sample carrier (A) having sample containers () that can be taken up from the output sample carrier (A); providing a target sample carrier (B) in which sample containers () taken up from the output sample carrier (A) can be deposited; providing a refilling sample carrier (C) which is at least partially filled with sample containers (); removing at least one sample container () from the output sample carrier (A) and depositing the at least one sample container () in the target sample carrier (B), and for each sample container () removed from the output sample carrier (A) and deposited in the target sample carrier (B), removing another sample container () from the refilling sample carrier (C) and refilling the space of the removed sample container () in the output sample carrier (A) with the other sample container () from the refilling sample carrier (C). Moreover, the invention relates to a loading system () designed for performing the method.

Described herein are sample manipulation devices, for removing lids from and/or for placing lids onto sample containers. Such devices include a sample unit including a sample carrier receptacle for receiving at least one sample carrier for holding one or more sample containers, and a manipulation unit having at least one manipulation tool, where the sample unit and the manipulation unit are movable relative to each other along a movement direction. The sample unit is also movable between a first orientation in which a longitudinal direction of a sample carrier in the sample carrier receptacle is parallel to the movement direction between sample unit and manipulation unit, and a second orientation in which a transverse direction, which is orthogonal to the longitudinal direction, of a sample carrier in the sample carrier receptacle is parallel to the movement direction between sample unit and manipulation unit.

A laboratory capper, decapper or combination capper/decapper includes a deck containing with a nest designed to hold an SBS-formatted tube storage rack, and a bit exchange magazine assembly containing one or more sets of adapter bits. The adapter bits are mounted on and unloaded from motor driven fittings, and are exchanged in order to cap or decap laboratory sample tubes or vials that have different head configurations.
