The present invention relates to coatings for a polymer, the coating comprising a diacrylate of an aliphatic diol, a polyacrylate of an aliphatic polyol, a photoinitiator, wherein the average molecular weight between cross-links in the coating is less than 190 g/mol. The invention further relates to articles comprising the coating and a polymer.

Coating for the inner surface of plastic bottles for protection against degradation from volatile organic compounds

Self-crosslinking aqueous coating compositions are disclosed comprising a water-dispersible alkyd having both sulfonate and acetoacetate functionality, a suitable bi- or poly-functional primary amine, and a monofunctional primary or cycloaliphatic secondary amine. The crosslinking of the composition includes oxidative curing via the fatty acid segments of the alkyd, and crosslinking via reaction between the acetoacetate groups of the alkyd and the primary amine groups of the polyfunctional amine. The aqueous alkyd systems disclosed do not require the presence of amines for the purpose of dispersing the alkyds, while exhibiting superior tack-free and through-dry times when used in coating compositions. Performance levels are achieved that heretofore had required increases in molecular weight and Tg, with a concomitant increase in VOC levels. Also disclosed are methods of making the inventive compositions.

Self-crosslinking aqueous acetoacetate-functionalized sulfonated alkyd systems

Compositions useful as printing inks or as dry or wet concentrates for the preparation of inks, comprising substantially homogenous blends of from about 0.1 to about 50.0 wt. % water dispersible polyurethane, and conversely from about 99.9 to about 50.0 wt. % water dispersible polyester, and preferably containing from about 1.0 to about 95.0 wt. % of a solvent system comprising water or water admixed with cosolvent, the cosolvent comprising up to about 30.0 wt. % of the solvent system. These blends show exceptionally marked improvements in certain physical properties such as: stability of viscosity to ambient and process conditions; linearity of viscosity change with water dilution; consistency of viscosity for a great variety of pigments; and greatly improved shelf-life (no significant polymer segregation of layering). Such properties greatly enhance the utility of these blends for use in pigmented or dyed printing inks and in other substrate coating formulations which may or may not contain colorants. Also disclosed is a process useful for the preparation of such compositions.
