Method, device and system for generating a light control parameter for controlling light (), e.g. ambient light, in response to an audio signal (A). The audio signal (A) is analyzed in order to extract a temporal evolution of semantic content of the audio signal (A). A light control parameter is then generated according to the temporal evolution of semantic content of the audio signal (A), either on-line or off-line. This enables generating light that is perceptually aligned with the audio signal, e.g. music. In a preferred embodiment spatial properties of the audio signal (A) are extracted, and separate light control parameters are generated for controlling light sources spatially positioned according to the spatial properties of the audio signal, e.g. for stereo or surround sound systems where light sources are positioned near each loudspeaker. Such embodiment enables spatial correspondence between light and audio. In another preferred embodiment semantically distinct temporal sections of a sequence of the audio signal (A) are determined, e.g. sections of a piece of music, and wherein the light control parameter is generated to reflect these sections of the audio signal (A). Such embodiment enables temporal changes in light that follow perceived changes in e.g. a piece of music. Applications of the described method is e.g. within home entertainment systems, theatres, jukeboxes, bars, restaurants, cinemas and discotheques.

Control of light in response to an audio signal

The invention describes a method of deriving a set of features (S) of an audio input signal (M), which method comprises identifying a number of first-order features (f, f, . . . , f) of the audio input signal (M), generating a number of correlation values (&#x3c1;, &#x3c1;, . . . , &#x3c1;) from at least part of the first-order features (f, f, . . . , f), and compiling the set of features (S) for the audio input signal (M) using the correlation values (&#x3c1;, &#x3c1;, . . . , &#x3c1;). The invention further describes a method of classifying an audio input signal (M) into a group, and a method of comparing audio input signals (M, M') to determine a degree of similarity between the audio input signals (M, M&#x2032;). The invention also describes a system () for deriving a set of features (S) of an audio input signal (M), a classifying system () for classifying an audio input signal (M) into a group, and a comparison system () for comparing audio input signals (M, M&#x2032;) to determine a degree of similarity between the audio input signals (M, M&#x2032;).

Method of deriving a set of features for an audio input signal

A method () for classifying at least one audio signal (A) into at least one audio class (AC), the method () comprising the steps of analyzing () said audio signal to extract at least one predetermined audio feature, performing () a frequency analysis on a set of values of said audio feature at different time instances, deriving () at least one further audio feature representing a temporal behavior of said audio feature based on said frequency analysis, and classifying () said audio signal based on said further audio feature. With the further audio feature, information is obtained about the temporal fluctuation of an audio feature, which may be advantageous for a classification of audio.

Parameterized temporal feature analysis

The method of calculating a similarity metric between a first feature vector of a first audio and/or video signal and a second feature vector of a second audio and/or video signal of the invention comprises the step of calculating a distance between the first feature vector and the second feature vector, both the first feature vector and the second feature vector comprising a feature value of a second dimension, wherein a weighting factor is used that gives a stronger weight to the first dimension than to the second dimension. The electronic device of the invention comprises electronic circuitry, which is operative to perform the method of the invention. The software of the invention makes a programmable device operative to perform the method of the invention.

Method and device for calculating a similarity metric between a first feature vector and a second feature vector

A method of organizing content items includes obtaining information (-) associating each of a first and at least one further label with respective sets of first content items. At least one first content item is associated with the first label in response to user input. A second content item is obtained. For each of the first and further labels, a similarity measure is calculated between a feature vector characterising the second content item and each of the feature vectors characterising first content items associated with the label. The first label is associated with the second content item upon determining that the second content item is similar to the first content items associated with the first label, according to calculated values of the similarity measure.

The method of determining a characteristic of a content item comprises the steps of selecting () data representative of a plurality of sounds from the content item, determining () a characteristic of each of the plurality of sounds by analyzing said data, each characteristic representing a temporal aspect of an amplitude of one of the plurality of sounds, and determining () the characteristic of the content item based on the plurality of determined characteristics.
