The invention relates methods for time aligning uplink transmissions by a mobile terminal in a mobile communication system, and to methods for performing a handover of a mobile terminal to a target aggregation access point. The invention is also providing apparatus and system for performing these methods, and computer readable media the instructions of which cause the apparatus and system to perform the methods described herein. In order to allow for aligning the timing of uplink transmissions on uplink component carriers, where different propagation delays are imposed on the transmissions on the uplink component carriers, the inventions suggests to time align the uplink component carriers based on a reference time alignment of a reference cell and a reception time difference or propagation delay difference between the downlink transmissions in the reference cell and the other radio cells, the uplink component carriers of which need to be time aligned.

Timing advance configuration for multiple uplink component carriers

The invention relates to methods for adjusting the transmit power utilized by a mobile terminal for uplink transmissions, and to methods for adjusting the transmit power used by a mobile terminal for one or more RACH procedures. The invention is also providing apparatus and system for performing these methods, and computer readable media the instructions of which cause the apparatus and system to perform the methods described herein. In order to allow for adjusting the transmit power of uplink transmissions on uplink component carriers, the invention suggests introducing a power scaling for uplink PRACH transmissions performing RACH procedures on an uplink component carrier. The power scaling is proposed on the basis of a prioritization among multiple uplink transmissions or on the basis of the uplink component carriers on which RACH procedures are performed.

Transmit power control for physical random access channels

The invention relates to methods for transmitting a buffer status report (BSR) in a mobile communication system, more particularly to the definition of rules for triggering, generating and transmitting buffer status reports. The invention also relates to a data transmission method utilizing new rules to decide data of which radio bearers is transmitted within a given transmission time interval. Moreover, the invention relates to scheduling method for radio resources that is taking into account additional scheduling&#x2014;relevant information from the buffer status reporting and/or data transmission method. To avoid unnecessary grants from the network and to suggest an advanced handling of data transmissions the invention suggests a buffer status reporting and data transmission schemes that take into account the scheduling mode of data of radio bearers pending for transmission to decide whether to report on it in a buffer status report, respectively, whether to multiplex the data to a transport block for transmission.

The present invention describes a method for configuring a measurement report type to be used by a receiver to report a measurement to a transmitter, wherein the measurement is reported to the transmitter in a report signal over a control channel, said method comprising selecting a first measurement report type and at least one second measurement report type to be used by the receiver to report the measurement, generating a measurement reporting pattern defining an occurrence of the first measurement report type and the at least one second measurement report type in the report signal transmitted by the receiver to the transmitter over control channel, and notifying the first measurement report type, the at least one second measurement report type, and the generated measurement reporting pattern to the receiver.

The invention relates to a random access procedure for use in a mobile communication system. Furthermore, the invention also provides a mobile terminal and a base station that as suitably adapted to perform the random access procedure as well as the definition of a special format of a random access response message signalled during the random access procedure. To suggest a random access procedure that allows more information to be conveyed in the first scheduled transmission of the random access procedure, the invention proposes a random access procedure for use in a mobile communication system, wherein a base station transmits a random access response in response to receiving a random access preamble from a mobile terminal, wherein the random access response message comprises a grant for a scheduled transmission by the mobile terminal and an indication on the uplink transmission mode for the scheduled transmission.

Enhanced random access procedure for mobile communications

The invention relates to methods for scheduling of uplink transmission and generating transport blocks according to multiple received uplink assignments Furthermore, the invention is also related to the implementation of these methods in hardware and software. To propose strategies for generating plural transport blocks within a given time constraint, the invention introduces prioritization of the uplink assignments, so that multiple uplink assignments can be ranked in the mobile terminal in a priority order. The prioritization of the uplink assignments is used to determine the order in which the individual transport blocks corresponding to the uplink assignments are filled, respectively how the data of different logical channels is multiplexed to the transport blocks for transmission in the uplink. Another aspect of the invention is to suggest joint logical channel procedures that operate on virtual transport blocks accumulated from the received uplink assignments. One or more such joint logical channel procedure can be performed in parallel.

Logical channel prioritization procedure for generating multiple uplink transport blocks

The invention relates to a method for allocating radio resources to a mobile terminal for data transmission in a mobile communication system as performed by a mobile terminal and a base station, respectively. Moreover, the invention relates to a mobile terminal and a base station to perform such method, as well as an implementation of the method in software. The invention further provides a mobile communication system in which radio resources are allocated to a mobile terminal for uplink transmission. In order to avoid false activation of a semi-persistent resource allocation the invention defines new conditions under which a mobile terminal activates a semi-persistent resource allocation. Unlike for example in prior-art systems, a mobile terminal only activates a semi-persistent resource allocation, if it can confirm the activation command received from the access network. Preferably, the activation command and its confirmation are resource assignments.

The invention relates to a method for receiving data units when using one HARQ process of an HARQ protocol. The memory associated to the HARQ process is divided into several sub-areas, which are addressable by an identifier. Then, when data is received, same is stored in one of the sub-areas. By providing more than one sub-area for one HARQ process, it is possible to actually use one HARQ process for two (or more) different received data units, being from the same data flow or from a different data flow. The actual sub-area of the HARQ process for storing data units can be either freely selected at the receiving end or is indicated by an identifier associated with the data. Furthermore, persistent scheduled data is transmitted in units, scheduled at fixed time intervals. Thus, a control signaling field, usually used for indicating new units, can be used to store the identifier.
