A decoy target, system, and method for protecting moving objects. The decoy target has at least two corner reflectors which reflect radar radiation, wherein the corner reflectors are arranged in a reflector matrix in a staggered manner in terms of height, width and/or depth, specified by the at least one connecting element, corresponding to a target to be simulated.

Decoy target, system and method for protecting an object

An active body is provided that includes at least one active mass block made of monobasic or polybasic high-energy materials such as a nitrocellulose mixture, for example, comprising approximately 60 percent nitroglycerin and 40 percent diethylene glycol dinitrate, which is provided with structures both on a surface and on an interior. In addition, the inner structures can be filled with an active mass substance. The ignition is triggered by a pyrotechnical primer composition, which initiates the active body, preferably from the inside.

The invention proposes to provide distraction spoofing even on modern infrared, radar and dual-mode guided missiles () by production of a decoy chain (). The chain () is formed by a plurality of apparent targets which are switched successively, for example by firing of individual chaff submunitions (-). The deployment takes place before or during the search phase of the missile and can in this case, for example, be carried out using the reverse walk-off principle or at the same time simultaneously or successively and in the form of a pattern. This ensures that the decoys (-) act initially in the greatest selected range zone away from the target (). The spoofing chain () created in this way results in the missile () having to carry out a series of time-consuming analysis processes on its way to the target ().

The present invention concerns a method for protecting ships against terminal phase-guided missiles provided with a target data analysis system, as well as an apparatus for implementing the method, wherein the missile moving in a direction towards the ship to be protected is detected by suitable sensors, located, and its expected trajectory is calculated by a computer; the type of target data analysis performed by the missile and its attack structure is detected by suitable sensors, and the missile is classified with regard to the type of its target data analysis; the current wind speed and direction of wind is continuously detected by wind measuring sensors; the ship's own data: travelling speed, direction of travel, rolling and pitching motions, is continuously detected by motion and/or navigation sensors; the detected sensor data is transmitted to a fire control calculator which controls at least one decoy launcher and generates, by taking into account all of the detected data, an effective decoy pattern that is adapted to missile and attack structure.

Method and apparatus for protecting ships against terminal phase-guided missiles

An ejection device for ejecting a plurality of submunitions ( ) having an adapter ( ) including a control unit ( ) and adapted for releasable fastening in an ejection barrel ( ) of a discharger ( ), and a submunitions cluster ( ) including the submunitions and adapted for releasable connection, both mechanical and electrical, with the adapter. In the assembled condition of the device, the submunitions cluster is connected with the adapter, permitting submunitions to be ejected from the submunitions cluster. The control unit of the adapter controls the device to eject submunitions in one or more of a variety of ejection modes, such as sequentially one by one or at least in part simultaneously. The period between ejection of two consecutive submunitions may be adjustable. A method and associated decoy for offering a phantom target for protecting land, air or water vehicles or the like as a defense against missiles possessing a target seeking head operating in the infrared (IR) or radar (RF) range, or a target seeking head simultaneously or serially operating in both wavelength ranges. An effective mass emitting radiation in the IR range (IR effective mass) based on flares and a mass backscattering RF radiation (RF effective mass) based on dipoles are simultaneously made to take effect in an appropriate position as a phantom target. A ratio of dipole mass to flare mass of approx. 3.4:1 to approx. 6:1 is employed; and flares presenting a descent rate approx. 0.5 to 1.5 m/s higher than that of the dipoles are used.

In a method for offering a dummy target which simulates the target signature of a subject, such as land craft, aircraft or water craft, to an imaging, radiation-sensitive homing head such as an infrared homing head, a number of active masses are deployed at respective spatial positions, with each mass simulating a portion of the target signature of the subject by emitting spectrally differentiated radiation in the sensitivity range of the homing head. The active masses are deployed at positions to produce a three-dimensional dummy target in which sources of radiation to which the homing head is sensitive are positioned in a manner which mimics the subject.
