A positioning unit is configured for detecting positions of at least one viewer within the predefined area, a sensor is configured for detecting the environmental conditions within the predefined area, a processor is configured for collecting data including detected positions of viewers and detected environmental condition and calculating a location for displaying holographic image based on the collected data.

Method and system for interaction using holographic display system

A computing device includes a display having a striped polarizer, the striped polarizer includes a set of sub-areas having a first polarization interspersed between another set of sub-areas having a second polarization. The sub-areas are arranged to provide an alternating polarization across a dimension of the display. The computing device may be configured to receive information specifying a privacy display mode, select a privacy display mode based upon the received information, receive input display data configured to represent information for display, generate, in response to selecting the privacy display mode, output display data by inverting a first portion of pixels in the input display data which are associated with a first polarization, and not inverting a second portion of pixels in the input display data which are associated with a second polarization, and provide the output display data to a display.

An apparatus and method generate a three-dimensional image by presenting, using a stereoscopic display, a representation of a scene comprising one or more objects, tracking a gaze of the user to determine a direction of gaze within the scene, determining depths associated with one or more objects in the scene, and determining which of the objects in the scene are inside and which are outside a comfort zone based at least in part on the direction of gaze of the user and the depths associated with the one or more objects in the scene. In some embodiments, the method includes identifying one or more objects proximate the direction of gaze of the user, determining depths associated with the one or more identified objects, determining a range of depths based at least in part on the depths associated with the one or more identified objects, and establishing the comfort zone based at least in part on the range of depths. In some embodiments, the method includes modifying the presented representation of the scene based on which of the objects are outside the comfort zone. In some embodiments, the method includes focusing the stereoscopic display based at least in part on the determination of which objects are inside the comfort zone, tracking the gaze of the user to determine a second direction of gaze within the scene different from the direction of gaze within the scene, re-determining depths associated with one or more objects in the scene, re-determining which of the objects in the scene are inside and which are outside the comfort zone based at least in part on the second direction of gaze of the user and the re-determined depths associated with the one or more objects in the scene, and re-focusing the stereoscopic display based at least in part on the determination of which objects are inside the comfort zone.

The invention is directed to systems, methods and computer program products for increasing the power efficiency of a display. An exemplary system includes a transflective display that is operable in either a transmissive mode or a reflective mode, and an illumination source with one or more distinct peaks in the illumination source's transmission spectrum, wherein light from the illumination source is directed towards the transflective display during the transmissive mode of operation. For the transmissive mode of operation, the transflective display's transmission spectrum is configured to substantially match the illumination source's transmission spectrum such that one or more narrow passbands in the transflective display's transmission spectrum substantially overlap with the one or more distinct peaks in the illumination source's transmission spectrum. For the reflective mode of operation, the transflective display's reflection spectrum is substantially inversely related to the transflective display's transmission spectrum.

An apparatus and method generate a three-dimensional image by determining, using a light-field camera, a depth map corresponding to an environment. The depth map represents how light falls in the environment. The method also includes determining a parallax occlusion map of the environment and creating, using the depth map and the parallax occlusion map, a three-dimensional image representing the environment. In some embodiments, the method includes taking a first picture of the environment with a first flash intensity and a second picture of the environment with a greater second flash, determining differences between the first picture of the environment and the second picture of the environment, determining one or more properties of the environment based at least in part on the determined differences and dynamically re-lighting the three-dimensional image using the depth map, the parallax occlusion map, and one or more of the determined properties of the environment.

One or more embodiments of a method and apparatus taught herein provide an electronic display projection assembly that comprises an electronic display configured to display an image, and a transparent glass layer positioned on one side of the electronic display on which the image is displayed. A projection layer is located on a surface of the glass layer. A projecting layer is positioned between the electronic display and the glass layer, and comprises a plurality of microlenses for projecting the displayed image onto the projection layer. The projecting and projection layers may be located on either opposing sides of the transparent glass layer, or on the same side beneath the glass layer. A corresponding method of providing an image from an electronic display is also disclosed.
