According to one aspect, a portable electronic device that includes a base portion and a sliding portion. The sliding portion is adapted to be coupled to the base portion and slideable relative thereto between a closed position and an open position. The device also includes a flex connector coupled to the sliding portion, the flex connector having a connector end, a dynamic region, and an intermediate coupler between the connector end and the dynamic region. The device also includes a guide base slidably coupled to the sliding portion, the guide base being adapted to be mechanically coupled to the intermediate coupler so as to secure the flex connector to the guide base before the sliding portion is coupled to the base portion.

Portable slidable electronic device having a dynamic flex alignment scheme and methods of assembling same

A flexible printed circuit connector structure and assembly method. A panel with a back side that is parallel to a first plane and a flexible printed circuit backer that has a base and a backing structure. The base is attached to the back side of the panel. The backing structure depends from the base and extends along a second plane that forms an angle with the first plane. A first flexible circuit side of the flexible printed circuit is attached to a first side and an opposite second side of the backing structure. The flexible printed circuit has exposed conductors on a second flexible circuit side that is opposite the first flexible circuit side.

The electronic mobile device further includes a movable assembly translatably connected to the translation support opposite the base. The movable assembly includes a guide follower that follows the guide path. As such, the movable assembly translates relative to the translation support as the movable assembly and the translation support pivot relative to the base to move the movable assembly to a plurality of operating configurations relative to the base.

Rotatable coupling mechanism

An electronic mobile device includes a base and a pivotable assembly that is pivotable relative to the base. A linkage connects to the pivotable assembly so as to be pivotable about a first axis and connects to the base so as to be pivotable about a second axis. As such, the pivotable assembly is pivotable relative to the base about the first axis and the second axis. The electronic mobile device further includes a guide mechanism that includes a guide path defined by one of the base and the pivotable assembly. The guide mechanism further includes a guide member supported by the other of the base and the pivotable assembly. The guide member moves along the guide path as the pivotable assembly pivots relative to the base to inhibit the pivotable assembly from simultaneously pivoting about both the first axis and the second axis.

A mobile device is described herein in which the mobile device can have a base portion that can include a guide base and can also have a slider portion that can include a sliding plate. The slider portion can be slidably engaged with the base portion and can move relative to the base portion. The mobile device can also include a cover plate that can be slidably engaged with the guide base of the base portion and the sliding plate of the slider portion. In one arrangement, the cover plate can be configured to selectively cover a slot of the sliding plate. As an example, when the slider portion moves from a closed position to an open position, the cover plate can move in substantially the same direction as the slider portion due to a friction coefficient between the cover plate and the sliding plate being greater than a friction coefficient between the cover plate and the guide base.
