An antenna shroud (100) used for covering an antenna element includes a hollow non-conductive sheath (101) attached to a base (103). The base (103) is used for holding the sheath (101) into a fixed positioned while the antenna shroud (100) is positioned within an aperture (114) located within a radio housing. The antenna shroud (100) is used to seal the antenna opening in the radio housing and for protecting the antenna element from damage. Additionally, the antenna shroud (100) also is used to protect a user from coming into direct contact with radio frequency energy radiated by the antenna element.

A rotary switch knob assembly (100) includes one or more circular knobs (101) having a plurality of interspersed labeling configured radially at least partially about the knob. The labeling including a first set of characters (105) and a second set of characters (107) each configured at a predetermined distance and angle between an adjacent character. A viewing window (109) is positioned over the labeling where either the first set of characters (105) or the second set of characters (107) are displayed through the viewing window (109) depending on an angular position of the viewing window.

A support plate assembly (100) is used for aligning and/or supporting one or more accessory connector(s) (103). The support plate assembly (100) includes a support plate (101) having one or more apertures (105) for frictional engaging with a sleeve (107) of an accessory connector (103). An alignment plate (109) is attached to the support plate (101) for aligning the accessory connector (103) and for providing a working surface for placement of the support plate assembly (100) by automated machinery. The alignment plate (109) includes one or more support members (115) for engaging with the accessory connector (103) and holding the accessory connector into a fixed position.

A communication device (200) includes an antenna nut (308) which can accommodate an antenna (204) or an antenna connector (100) without any internal switching mechanism. The antenna connector (100) includes a threaded center stud (102) that is coupled to the receiver input port via a nut (308) and a spring contact (310). Similarly, the antenna (204) is coupled to the input port (302) via the coupling port (206) providing for the mechanical coupling of the antenna (204) and the connector (100) through a hot center stud (102) which eliminates the need for any internal switching mechanisms. The ground to the connector (100) is provided via a metallic plate (404) which comes in contact with the ground plane of radio (304) through a ground contact tab (405) which provides a large ground plane for improved antenna performance.

A radio assembly (100) includes a radio chassis (120) and radio housing (150). The radio chassis (120) includes a resilient cantilever arm (130) having an engaging portion (135). The radio housing (150) includes a mount channel (156) to position the cantilever arm (130), and a ramped catch portion (157) within the mount channel (156) to engage the engaging portion (135) of the cantilever arm (130) and to secure the radio chassis (120) within the radio housing (150). The chassis (120) is mounted to the radio housing (150) such that the engaging portion (135) of the cantilever arm (130) is positioned within the mount channel (156). The engaging portion (135) of the cantilever arm (130) is biasedly engaged with the ramped catch portion (157), and is deflectable so as to disengage from the ramped catch portion (157) when a deflecting force is applied to the engaging portion (135). A radio disassembly tool (300) disassembles the radio assembly (100) by deflecting and releasing the engaging portion (135) of the cantilever arm (130) from the ramped catch portion (157).

A wind noise and vibration noise reducing microphone arrangement is formed in a bullet-shaped housing (12) having a rounded front portion (13) and a flat rear portion (15). The rear portion is substantially perpendicular to the side portions (14) and contains a transducer (10) facing in the opposite direction from the forward portion. The transducer is mounted to the housing with an elastomeric member (25) that also serves as a seal between the transducer and the housing. The elastomeric member also reduces vibrations transmitted to the microphone. A mounting means (30) is attached to the housing. The mounting means has a vibration isolation member (32) to reduce vibrations transmitted to the housing. The mounting means can be an aerodynamic pedestal attached to the housing, with an elastomeric member attached to the pedestal to reduce vibrations. The pedestal is attached to a vehicle such as a bicycle (6), motorcycle, glider, or boat, and the elastomeric member reduces the vibration transmitted from the vehicle to the housing. The microphone arrangement is connected to a radio transmitter (4) mounted on the bicycle, and transmits the rider's voice to another remote radio receiver.
