An entity detection method and system are provided for monitoring an area. The method comprises providing an illuminated band extending continuously along an extremity of the area; providing an optical detector having an image sensor adapted to capture an image, the illuminated band being viewable by the image sensor and being capturable in the image, a space between the band and the image sensor being part of the area; storing a detection threshold; analyzing the image to detect a discontinuity in the continuous illuminated band apparent on the image, comparing the detected discontinuity to the detection threshold; and indicating a status of the area to be one of a presence of an entity and an absence of the entity based on the comparing.

Entity detection system and method for monitoring an area

The traffic detection system includes an optical unit having an emitter module emitting pulses; a receiver module having a field of view including a plurality of adjacent detection channels receiving pulses reflected by an object and acquiring and converting the received pulses into a corresponding plurality of a digital signal waveforms; an image sensing module providing an image. The method comprises providing a status overlay image including the image and a visual indication on the image of an outline of the plurality of adjacent detection channels; positioning the field of view to cover the detection zone using the status overlay image; obtaining the plurality of digital signal waveforms; detecting a signal echo caused by an object in one of the digital signal waveforms at a position within the field of view; determining a location for the object using the position; storing the location for the object.

Active 3D monitoring system for traffic detection

A method and system for interconnecting peripherals, processor nodes, and hardware devices to a data network to produce a network bus providing OS functionality for managing hardware devices connected to the network bus involves defining a network bus driver at each of the processor nodes that couples hardware device drivers to a network hardware abstraction layer of the processor node. The network bus can be constructed to account for the hot-swappable nature of the hardware devices using a device monitoring function, and plug and play functionality for adding and, removing device driver instances. The network bus can be used to provide a distributed processing system by defining a shared memory space at each processor node. Distributed memory pages are provided with bus-network-wide unique memory addresses, and a distributed memory manager is added to ensure consistency of the distributed memory pages, and to provide a library of functions for user mode applications.
