A system and method for leak correction and normalization of in-ear pressure measurement for hemodynamic monitoring are disclosed. The system includes an acoustical assembly and a data analysis system. The acoustical assembly includes an earbud system that forms an earbud seal with an ear canal of an individual, where the earbud system includes an earbud with an in-ear acoustic sensor that detects acoustic signals in the ear canal. The acoustic signals include audible signals and infrasonic signals. The data analysis system receives the acoustic signals from the earbud system, identifies hemodynamic pressure signals from a body of the individual included within the infrasonic signals, and identifies signal characteristics of the pressure signals over time. The data analysis system can then correct the hemodynamic pressure signals for effects caused by leaks in the earbud seal based upon changes to the signal characteristics over time.

System and method for leak correction and normalization of in-ear pressure measurement for hemodynamic monitoring

A vibroacoustic earbud ('earbud') is proposed that includes a housing and an infrasonic/vibration sensor. The housing includes a nozzle with a nozzle tip that is configured for positioning within an ear canal of an individual. The sensor is included within the nozzle and detects biosignals including infrasonic signals from a body of the individual in the ear canal. The nozzle tip engages with a wall of the ear canal to provide an earbud seal, the result of which forms an ear canal acoustic volume that amplifies the biosignals. The earbud is tuned/designed to minimize loss of amplitude of the biosignals detected by the sensor in the ear canal acoustic volume when an unintentional leak occurs in the earbud seal that possibly reduces acoustic pressure in the ear canal acoustic volume.

Vibroacoustic earbud

An earbud for detecting biosignals from and presenting audio signals at an inner ear canal and method therefor are disclosed. The earbud includes a nozzle and a housing including a body. The nozzle extends from the housing body and has a proximal end arranged for positioning within an inner ear canal of an individual. An earbud tip of the earbud attaches to the proximal end of the nozzle and is adapted to engage the inner ear canal. The earbud includes a speaker and various sensors including an infrasonic/vibration sensor. The infrasonic/vibration sensor detects the biosignals including infrasonic signals from the body of the individual in the canal, and the speaker transmits sound from an audio source into the canal via the nozzle. The earbud preferably seals the inner ear canal to block external sound while also decreasing an acoustic volume of the canal that amplifies the biosignals prior to detection.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide multi-layer microphone protection for any apparatus that captures sound. The apparatus includes an enclosure defining a first cavity. A microphone element is coupled to the first cavity. The microphone element comprises a microphone sensor and a microphone cavity. A first, outer protective layer is disposed at an outer end of the first cavity, closer to the external environment. A second, inner protective layer is disposed between an inner end of the first cavity and the microphone element. The second, inner protective layer may protect the microphone sensor from particles or liquids that may have passed through the first protective layer. The first and second layers may have different acoustic properties.

An earbud may include an acoustic driver. The acoustic driver may include a diaphragm and a magnetic circuit. A frame of the acoustic driver may be integrated with the earbud.

In an active noise reducing headphone, a signal processor applies filters and control gains of both the feed-forward and feedback active noise cancellation signal paths. The signal processor is configured to apply first feed-forward filters to the feed-forward signal path and apply first feedback filters to the feedback signal path during a first operating mode providing effective cancellation of ambient sound, and to apply second feed-forward filters to the feed-forward signal path during a second operating mode providing active hear-through of ambient sounds with ambient naturalness.

A device includes an ear occlude, an output transducer that is acoustically coupled to an ear canal of a wearer of the device, a voice microphone configured to generate a first electrical signal that is proportional to a voice-generated sound pressure at the microphone, and signal processing circuitry, electrically coupled to the output transducer and the microphone, including a compensator configured to generate, from the first electrical signal, a second electrical signal, and output the second electrical signal to the output transducer, wherein the compensator is tuned to cause GE, a ratio of a sound pressure within the ear canal to a voice-generated sound pressure at a mouth reference point when the ear is occluded and electronically-aided to be approximately equal to G, a ratio of the sound pressure within the ear canal to the voice-generated sound pressure at the mouth reference point when the ear is unoccluded.

Self-voice occlusion mitigation in headsets

An active noise reduction earphone includes a speaker, a plurality of microphones and a feedback system. Each microphone is displaced from the speaker and the other microphones, and each microphone generates a microphone signal responsive to received acoustic noise. The feedback system receives a combination of the microphone signals and generates an inverse noise signal that is applied to the speaker. The speaker generates an inverse acoustic noise signal that substantially cancels the acoustic noise signal at a predetermined location relative to the speaker and the microphones. The feedback system can include a microphone signal combiner in communication with the microphones. The microphone signal combiner generates a signal that may be a sum or weighted sum of the microphone signals and can be used to generate the inverse noise signal. The earphone has an increased noise reduction bandwidth and improved cancellation capability relative to conventional earphones.

A system for combining signals includes a first microphone generating a first input signal having a first voice component and a first noise component, a second microphone generating a second input signal having a second voice component and a second noise component, a mixing circuit, and an adaptive filter. The mixing circuit applies a first gain having a value &#x3b1; to the first input signal to produce a first scaled signal, applies a second gain having a value 1&#x2212;&#x3b1; to the second input signal to produce a second scaled signal, and sums the first scaled signal and the second scaled signal to produce a summed signal. The adaptive filter computes an updated value of &#x3b1; to minimize the energy of the summed signal based on the summed signal, the first input signal and the second input signal, and provides the updated value of &#x3b1; to the mixing circuit.

An earpiece of an ANR device incorporates one or more of feedforward-based ANR; feedback-based ANR; passive noise reduction (PNR) of environmental noise sounds in the environment external to the casing of the earpiece in higher audible frequencies; a controlled leak acoustically coupling the front cavity to the environment external to the casing of the ANR device where the coupling may be through another cavity that is closable to the environment external to the casing with a leaky cover; a combination of an acoustically resistive port and a mass port coupling a rear cavity to the environment external to the casing where the coupling may be through another cavity that is closable to the environment external to the casing with a leaky cover; a feedforward microphone given acoustic access to the environment external to the casing through an aperture that is overlain with a leaky cover or that is enclosed within a cavity that is acoustically coupled to the environment external to the casing with a leak.
