An apparatus and method for detecting physiological function, for example, nerve conduction, is described. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a housing including a stimulator shaped to fit a first anatomical site and a detector shaped to fit a second anatomical site. The housing automatically positions the detector substantially adjacent to the second anatomical site when the stimulator is positioned substantially adjacent to the first anatomical site. The detector contains a plurality of individual detection elements, whereby the response evoked by stimulation at the first anatomical site is measured using one or more of these detection elements at the second anatomical location.

Apparatus and method for performing nerve conduction studies with localization of evoked responses

A method and apparatus for assessing neuromuscular pathology in an individual, by (a) applying a plurality of stimuli to a peripheral nerve; (b) recording from the peripheral nerve, or from a muscle innervated by the peripheral nerve, at least one response to each stimulus; (c) processing each response into at least one response characteristic; (d) compiling the response characteristics from all of the responses into a plurality of descriptive parameters of the response characteristics; and (e) analyzing the plurality of descriptive parameters according to a function specific to the neuromuscular pathology so as to yield an indicator of the pathology.

Method and apparatus for the detection of neuromuscular disease using disease specific evoked neuromuscular response analysis

A theft detection system includes an accelerometer attachable to an object, the accelerometer providing an acceleration signal in response to movement of the object; an alarm mechanism for providing a signal in response to movement of the object; and for preventing false alarms, a filter programmed to determine the frequency of the acceleration signal and to provide an output to activate the alarm mechanism only when the frequency of the acceleration signal meets a predetermined criteria.

Theft detection system and method

A novel application of independent component analysis (ICA) to data acquired by a single sensor. The technique exploits the unique relationship between multiple physiologic (source) and electronic (artifact) components in surface recorded sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) waveforms that are evoked by different activating magnitudes. A forward model of the SNAP is developed and used to test the approach on a simplified data simulation. The method is applied to experimental data and shown to be effective at separating artifact and source components and reconstructing artifact-free traces. A method of automated reconstruction for use within an expert system is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for identifying constituent signal components from a plurality of evoked physiological composite signals

A motion password control system including a motion sensor responsive to motion of a device and providing a signal corresponding to movement of the device; a database including stored data values corresponding to predetermined motion of the device; and an electronic circuit, responsive to the motion sensor, configured to compare the motion sensor signal with the stored database values, and, in response, to provide an output signal for performing at least one action of a preselected set of actions when the comparison reveals that the device has moved in a way which corresponds to the stored data values.
