A synthesis process for making a benzoxazine compound containing at least one benzoxazine unit from aromatic amine containing at least one primary amino group, at least one phenolic compound with at least one ortho-hydrogen, and alkyl formcel. In one embodiment, the aromatic amine is reacted with alkyl formcel to generate an alkoxymethyl intermediate compound. Subsequently, the intermediate compound is reacted with a phenol to generate the benzoxazine compound. In another embodiment, the benzoxazine compound is formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel and phenol in one reaction step. Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. The isolated alkoxymethyl compound is useful as a reactant in a subsequent reaction.

Stirrup

A stirrup includes a stirrup leather opening and a foot opening. Above the stirrup leather opening is a top member that includes a number of bends. A first bend is in a first direction, a second bend is in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, a third bend is a first direction, and a fourth bend is in the second direction. The bends in the top member will orient the stirrup iron at an angle relative to the horse, rather than parallel to the side of a horse as in a typical straight or flat stirrup. The stirrup is more stable, reduces pain and stress in the leg, is easier to retrieve, and is safer than conventional stirrups.

There is provided a musical instrument having a tubular body and a handle. The tubular body has an annular wall that defines a sound chamber. The handle is designed to shelter the hand of the player or serve as a mounting for use with a mounting cradle. The thickness of the tubular wall and the dimensions of the sound chamber may be modified to produce various sound qualities and pitches. Preferably, the musical instrument produces the characteristic sound of the traditional &ldquo;clave.&rdquo;

An equestrian stirrup iron that swivels with respect to the stirrup leather so that in preparation for riding, the rider may bring the stirrup iron down from the run up position, pivot it to a desired angle in the generally forward direction, and insert his or her foot therein. A cylindrical swivel base is fastened to the top of the arch of the swivel iron. A cylindrical swivel body is rotatably mounted to the swivel base. A member having a stirrup leather opening is attached to the swivel body. The swivel body may be rotatably secured to the swivel base by a threaded fastener or by a welded shank or pin. A spring-loaded ball in the swivel base cooperates with a plurality of detent cones disposed in the swivel body. In another version, a spring-loaded friction member disposed in the swivel base cooperates with a friction disk mounted on the lower surface of the swivel body to provide smoothly variable angular increments of rotation. The swivel base can be moved down into the top of the arch to drop the silhouette of the stirrup iron.

A percussion instrument includes a sound chamber having a cavity therein with at least one opening thereinto, support means secured to the chamber within the cavity, a resilient, elongated member disposed within the cavity of the chamber, one end of which is free-standing and the other end of which is coupled to the support means, a knocker secured to the free end of the resilient member, and a vibratory, elongated rod which is secured to the sound chamber. The rod includes a handgrip along one portion of its length for imparting sustained vibrations to the resilient member and, in turn, the knocker, so that the knocker will strike the walls of the sound chamber to thereby produce a percussion sound. The instrument is particularly suitable for simulating the sound of a jawbone percussion instrument, used for Latin American music.
