Methods for fabricating wires insulated by low porosity glass coatings are provided, as are high temperature electromagnetic (EM) devices containing such wires. In embodiments, a method for fabricating a high temperature EM device includes applying a glass coating precursor material onto a wire. The glass coating precursor material contains a first plurality of glass particles having an initial softening point. After application onto the wire, the glass coating precursor material is heat treated under process conditions producing a crystallized intermediary glass coating having a modified softening point exceeding the initial softening point. The crystallized intermediary glass coating is then infiltrated with a filler glass precursor material containing a second plurality of glass particles. After infiltration, the filler glass precursor material is heat treated to consolidate the second plurality of glass particles into the crystallized intermediary glass coating and thereby yield a low porosity glass coating adhered to the wire.

Embodiments of laminated stator cores suitable for usage in high temperature applications are provided, as are embodiments of methods for manufacturing high temperature laminated stator core. In one embodiment, the method includes obtaining a plurality of coated laminates each comprising a laminate over which a coating precursor layer is formed. The coating precursor layer contain inorganic dielectric particles having a softening point. The plurality of coated laminates are arranged in a laminate stack, which is then fired at temperatures equal to or greater than the softening point of the inorganic dielectric particles. During firing, a compressive force is applied to the laminate stack sufficient to consolidate the inorganic dielectric particles into a plurality of coherent interlaminate dielectric layers electrically insulating and bonding together the plurality of coated laminates as the high temperature laminated stator core.

A fireproof system is provided for protecting a structure during a fire event. The system includes a fire resistant panel defining a first attachment opening and disposed adjacent to the structure; a canister including a side wall defining a first end and a second end, and an end wall enclosing the first end and defining a second attachment opening that is aligned with the first attachment opening; a fastener extending through the canister at the second attachment opening and the fire resistant panel at the first attachment opening such that the canister, the fire resistant panel, and the structure are fastened together; and a fire retardant agent disposed within the canister in an inactive condition and configured to transition out of the second end of the canister in an active condition at a predetermined temperature.

A control console that is used in conjunction with a hand-held laser welding wand is adapted to couple to an electrically controllable filler media supply source, and to an electrically controllable laser source. The control console includes a control switch that is electrically coupled to the filler media supply source and the laser source and is configured to such that an operator can independently and simultaneously control the filler media supply source to either supply or not supply filler media, and the laser source to either emit or not emit laser light therefrom. The control switch is preferably further configured to control the optical power level of the laser source.

A novel and inventive hand held powder-fed laser fusion welding torch providing manual flexibility for laser welding with powder-fed material. The hand held laser includes a body, handle, and nozzle assembly. The nozzle may be shrouded by a cover that is slightly spaced apart from the nozzle. The gap between the two may provide space through which inert gas may flow. Laser light from a remote source shines through the nozzle's central aperture. The nozzle aperture may be circumscribed by powder channel outlets aligned upon a working focal point coincident with the laser beam to treat a workpiece. A proximity sensor may enable selective welding torch operation according to the presence of a workpiece.

The invention provides a system for passive measurement of atmospheric temperature using a passive direction detector for detecting the energy of a narrow wavelength band emanating from a volume of atmospheric gas. The resulting signal can be associated with an effective temperature. The effective temperature can be associated with an effective range. The system generates a temperature map which can determine, at predetermined time intervals, atmospheric temperatures in an azimuth plane associated with a predefined range from the detector. The temperature map can then be used to calculate temperature gradients that in turn can be used to compute the vertical wind vector difference and to determine the presence of clear air turbulence.
