In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a near field communication (NFC) device is provided, comprising: a modulator configured to modulate a carrier signal received from an external reader, resulting in a modulated carrier signal; a controller configured to control a transmission of the modulated carrier signal to the external reader; a transmitter driver configured to transmit said modulated carrier signal, said transmitter driver having a variable resistance; wherein the controller is further configured to change said variable resistance during a modulation phase of the NFC device such that a clock synchronization window is widened. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating an NFC device is conceived. In accordance with a third aspect of the present disclosure, a non-transitory machine-readable medium is provided, comprising instructions which, when executed, carry out a method of the kind set forth.

NFC device and method of operating the same

Various embodiments provide a communication module having a carrier, a loop antenna, a modulation circuit which is coupled to the loop antenna and is configured to modulate or demodulate signals which are received or transmitted using the loop antenna, and an impedance matching circuit for matching the impedance of the loop antenna to the input impedance of the modulation circuit. The modulation circuit and the impedance matching circuit are arranged inside the loop antenna on or in the carrier.

Communication module

A method for compensating phase shift is provided. The method includes sweeping a transmitter (TX) clock frequency over a frequency range and sampling resistance values at a receiver (RX) circuit while sweeping the TX clock frequency. A first frequency in the frequency range is determined which corresponds to a maximum resistance value sampled at the RX circuit. Using a look-up table (LUT), a phase adjust value is determined based on the first frequency. A phase of the TX clock is adjusted based on the phase adjust value.

Phase compensation in an NFC system

According to one embodiment, a chip card is described including a chip, an antenna, a coupling structure configured to transmit energy from the antenna to the chip and a control element configured to control, depending on a field strength of a magnetic field to which the chip card is exposed, at least one of the resonance frequency of the antenna, the quality factor of the antenna and an energy transmission efficiency of the coupling structure.

A transponder unit for the contactless transmission of modulated data to a reader is provided. The transponder unit includes a clock generator configured to generate a clock signal and to synchronize the clock signal in a synchronization mode, on the basis of a signal received from the reader, and a modulator, the modulator configured to modulate data on the basis of the clock signal from the clock generator. The modulator is configured to generate a modulation pause by masking out at least one modulation component, the modulation component being smaller than a modulation pulse. The modulator is further configured to send the signal for starting the synchronization mode to the clock generator during this modulation pause.

Transponder unit, system and method for contactless data transmission

In various embodiments, a transponder unit for the contactless transmission of modulated data to a reader is provided. The transponder unit may include: a clock generator configured to generate a clock signal and to synchronize the clock signal in a synchronization mode, on the basis of a signal received from the reader; and a modulator configured to take the clock signal from the clock generator as a basis for modulating data; wherein the modulator is configured to send a signal for starting the synchronization mode to the clock generator.

Data carrier for contactless data transmission comprising a substrate, a chip having at least one connection pad, wherein the chip is arranged by its side remote from the connection pad on the substrate and a first copper-coated prepreg layer is arranged on the chip and at least partly on the substrate and has a contact opening to the connection pad.
