The invention is directed to an arrangement for operating a laser diode. A two-stage stabilization circuit is provided for stabilizing the wavelength of a laser diode to exactly defined values for its use in distance measuring interferometers. In addition to presetting the operating parameters of current and temperature of the laser diode, the emitted wavelength of the laser diode is controlled to a predetermined transmission maximum of a Fabry-Perot interferometer. At switch-on, a control program can be called up and compute new values for the operating parameters premised on the last measured values of the operating parameters and initially determined and stored coefficients. In this way, the program always reliably sets the wavelength of the laser diode to the same transmission maximum.

The invention is directed to a solid state laser wherein the pump sources are connected with holding parts and can be seated into a predetermined and reproducible position with mechanical guides and stops. In this way, an exchange of the pump sources is possible without a new adjustment or a readjustment.

The invention is directed to a cooling arrangement for a semiconductor pump source which develops heat during operation. The cooling arrrangement includes a heat sink defining a seat for accommodating the pump source thereon and a cooling channel is formed in the heat sink for conducting a coolant therethrough to remove a major portion of the heat. A Peltier device is connected to the heat sink for finely controlling the temperature of the heat sink so as to permit the semiconductor pump source to emit radiation having a predetermined optional wavelength.

The invention is directed to an electric plug connector having a cooled connector component on a consumer where an intense heat is generated. The plug connector includes a movable connector component having a flexible supply line and both connector components are configured with heat-contact surfaces which define a low heat resistance when in contact with each other. In the movable connector component, at least one electrical line part is connected to a part made of a good insulating and heat-conductive material. The flow of heat to the heat-contact surface of the movable connector component takes place through this part made of insulating and good heat-conductive material.

The invention is directed to a laser arrangement for converting frequency wherein the fundamental frequency or the converted frequency can be selectively emitted by means of an optical element which can be pivoted into and out of the beam path. An especially slim configuration of the overall arrangement is obtained with the aid of an additional deflection element.

For a durable, strong fixation of adjusted optical components by means of a self-hardening substance, the fixation is distributed over at least two mutually independent fixations and the parts used for the fixation are configured and dimensioned in such a manner that the resultant volumes or layer thicknesses of the self-hardening substance are optimal.

A multi/demultiplexer is disclosed wherein the light-conducting fibers are cemented into a perforated plate made of a photolithographically etchable material, and their terminal faces are ground down and polished together with the surface of the perforated plate. To compensate for focusing differences, a plate of appropriately matched thickness is disposed between the transparent supporting block and the surface of the perforated plate.
