A media distribution device receives media content including media items to be broadcast. the media items include common media items to be delivered to end users by each of multiple different media delivery devices. 'Common' refers to the fact that the same media items are delivered by the media delivery devices, and does not mean “ordinary.” The common media items are processed into first chunks and second chunks. The sizes of the first chunks the second chunks are different, with the size of the first chunks determined based at least in part on a first media delivery schedule associated with a first media delivery device and the size of the second chunks determined based at least in part on a second media delivery schedule associated with a second media delivery device. The first chunks are transmitted to the first media delivery device, and the second chunks are delivered to the second media delivery device.

Transmitting media item to different destinations using different sized chunks

Multiple media delivery subsystems are connected via a communications network, and are configured to transfer broadcast content among themselves. A media distribution device communicates with the media delivery subsystems via the communications network. The media delivery subsystems transmit temporal priority messages to the media distribution device. A temporal priority message is used to indicate a temporal priority of a media item from the perspective of the media delivery subsystem associated with the message. The media distribution device manages transfers of broadcast content from one media delivery subsystem to another media delivery subsystem in accordance with the temporal priority messages.

Media asset distribution

Media delivery subsystems can deliver media files, received from a media distribution device, to end users. The media distribution device can determine a current order of distribution, specifying an order in which the media distribution device currently intends to transmit the media files, and transmit a preview message indicating the current order of distribution. The media delivery subsystems can return temporal priority feedback messages to the media distribution device based on the preview message. These temporal priority feedback messages indicate a temporal priority of the plurality of media files from a perspective of the individual media delivery subsystems. The media distribution device can determine that the current order of distribution is to be re-evaluated, determine a revised order of distribution based, on the temporal priority feedback messages, and transmit the plurality of media files to the plurality of media delivery subsystems in the revised order of distribution.

Media asset distribution with prioritization

Media items for broadcast or streaming can be created or otherwise obtained by a media distribution system. The media items can be transferred from the media distribution system to a media delivery system over a communications network, in an order determined by the media distribution system. The media delivery system decides how important the media items being transferred are, based for example, on a broadcast schedule known to the media delivery system; assigns a temporal priority to the media items; and provides feedback to the media distribution system regarding the temporal priority. The media distribution system adjusts the order in which media items are transferred based on the temporal priority feedback from the media delivery system. The media distribution system can provide a list of upcoming media item transfers, to allow the media delivery system to provide feedback before the media items are transmitted.
