In a method to operate a printer or copier to print to a printing substrate, or in such a printer or copier, toner concentrate is extracted from a toner concentrate reservoir and carrier fluid is extracted from a carrier fluid reservoir. The extracted toner concentrate and carrier fluid are supplied to a mixer where mixing occurs to form a developer mixture. The developer mixture is applied to a developer roller with aid of an electrical field. Given an exchange of least one of the toner concentration reservoir and the carrier fluid reservoir, a strength of the electrical field is modified such that a predetermined desired inking of the printing substrate is maintained even given a change of a toner concentration in the developer mixture due to the exchange.

Method to operate a printer given exchange of a reservoir

A digital printer has at least one print group with a station to generate charge images of images to be printed on a charge image carrier, the station having a developer station to ink the charge images using liquid carrier having toner and carrier fluid. The developer station comprises a rotating application unit that transports the liquid developer to the charge image carrier. The feed system feeds the liquid developer to the application unit. The dosing unit adjacent to the application unit and after the feed system comprises a dosing roller and an elastic unit acting on the dosing roller, the elastic unit exerting an adjustable contact pressure force on the dosing roller in a direction of the application unit.

Digital printer for printing to a recording medium

In a digital printer, print groups are provided each having a respective developer station using liquid developer comprising carrier fluid and toner. A supply arrangement to supply the print groups is provided with fluids and to accept used and unconsumed fluids from the print groups. The supply arrangement has a first supply unit common to all print groups to supply the print groups with the fluids, at least one reservoir containing a carrier fluid. A second supply unit per color supplies the respective print group for the color with liquid developer. The second supply unit comprises a first buffer container connected with a reservoir, the reservoir containing carrier fluid and concentrated toner as toner concentrate. A second buffer container for carrier fluid is connected with the carrier fluid reservoir in the first supply unit. A mixing unit is connected with the first and second buffer containers for mixing together the liquid developer, the mixing unit being connected via a feed pump to supply the liquid developer for the color to the respected developer station of the respective print group.

Digital printer with supply arrangement to supply print groups with fluids and to accept used and unconsumed fluids

In a digital printer comprising a developer station using liquid developer, the developer station has an application unit via which liquid developer is transported to a charge image carrier. The supply system adjacent and lateral to the application unit supplies liquid developer to the application unit. A pre-chamber and an electrode segment are provided, the pre-chamber being filled with liquid developer and open towards the application unit. The pre-chamber is open at a top such that a compensation volume of liquid developer with an open surface is created past which the application unit passes. The electrode segment is arranged adjacent to the pre-chamber and to a side of the application unit such that it forms a gap with the application unit through which the liquid developer is directed, the electrode segment being at an electrical potential such that toner of the liquid developer transfers to the application unit in the gap.

Digital printer having an improved liquid developer supply system

In a method or digital printer to print a recording material with toner particles applied with a liquid developer, toner concentration of the liquid developer is determined via measurement with aid of ultrasonic pulses. At least one ultrasonic pulse is generated by discharging an ultrasound emitter charged with a charge voltage. The ultrasonic pulse permeates the liquid developer and is received by an ultrasound receiver which generates a reception signal corresponding to the received ultrasonic pulse. With a control device, the charge voltage is regulated to a value such that a representative value of the reception signal corresponds to a predetermined desired value. The toner concentration is determined from the regulated charge voltage.

Method to operate a digital printer and determine the toner concentration, as well as an associated digital printer

In a method or system for printing of a recording medium, potential images of images to be printed are generated on a potential image carrier. The potential images are developed into an image film comprising image regions and non-image regions on the potential image carrier via application of a liquid developer comprising a polymerizable carrier fluid with dye particles suspended therein. The image film is transferred onto the recording medium. The image film is fixed on the recording medium via a cross-linking reaction of the carrier fluid such that the dye particles of the image regions are embedded in a fixed polymer matrix and the carrier fluid hardens into a transparent film that permanently bonds with the recording medium. The cross-linking reaction of the carrier fluid is started, accelerated, or extended by at least one component.

Method for printing of a recording

In a digital printer a developer element is provided that inks charge images on a charge image carrier with toner. A feed system is provided to apply liquid developer with the toner onto the developer element. The cleaning unit is provided with a cleaning element to clean off residual liquid developer remaining on the developer element after the development of the charge images. A scraping unit rests on the cleaning element made up of a double blade arranged in a blade mount. The double blade provides a cleaning blade and a sealing blade that together form a blade chamber that is filled with fluid. The cleaning blade has at least one row of holes adjacent to a blade edge of the cleaning blade.

In a method or apparatus to optimize transfer of a developer fluid having toner embedded in a carrier fluid in an electrophoretic printing apparatus, charge images of print images are generated on an intermediate image carrier. The print images are inked into toner images by means of a developer station with the developer fluid. The toner images are transfer printed onto a printing substrate in a transfer printing zone by a transfer unit. The toner embedded in the carrier fluid is thus transported from the developer station to the intermediate image carrier in a first transport path segment and from the transfer unit to the printing substrate in a second transport path segment. A temperature acting on the carrier fluid in the first transport path segment is above a melting point of the carrier fluid, and a temperature acting on the carrier fluid in the second transport path segment is below the melting point of the carrier fluid.

Method and apparatus to optimize the transfer of developer fluid in an electrophoretic printing apparatus

In a device or method to develop potential images of images to be printed, the potential images being generated on an intermediate image carrier using developer fluid having a charged toner and carrier fluid, developing with an applicator device the potential images, the applicator device directing the developer fluid across the intermediate image carrier. With the feed device the developer fluid is supplied to the applicator device, the feed device discharging excess developer fluid depleted of toner and that is not transferred to the applicator device. With a conditioning device the carrier fluid is taken from the applicator device and the taken up carrier fluid is discharged. With a cleaning device residual developer fluid remaining after development of the potential images is cleaned off of the applicator device and the residual developer fluid is supplied to a chamber arranged in the cleaning device. The discharge from the feed device and the discharge from the conditioning device are fed to the cleaning device chamber.

Device and method to develop potential images generated on an intermediate image carrier in an electrographic printing or copying device

In a system or method for development of potential images of images to be printed and generated on an intermediate image carrier using a developer fluid comprising charged toner particles and developer fluid in an electrographic printing or copying device, a feed device is provided comprising as function elements at least one chamber scraper, a raster element comprising cups to receiver the developer fluid, and at least one first flow element arranged in the chamber scraper. Between the at least one flow element and the raster element an electrical voltage is supplied such that a toner particle concentration in the cups of the raster element is increased. An application device accepts the developer fluid from the feed device and supplies it to the intermediate image carrier.

Apparatus and method for development of potential images, produced on an intermediate image carrier, for an electrographic printing or copying device

In an electrographic printing device, an image generating system generates an electrical charge image on an image carrier element. The electronic charge image is made visible by a developer station via charged ink particles, the image being subsequently transferred onto a final image medium and fixed thereon. A speed control is provided which: continuously varies speed of the image carrier element from zero up to a limit speed; adapts charge intensity of the image carrier element to its speed; adapts an exposure intensity for exposure according to the image and in a deletion exposure of the image carrier element to its speed; and keeps a supply of toner to the image carrier element constant per area.

Device and method for electrophoretic liquid development

In a method or device for transport of liquid developer to an image carrier element for electrophoretic digital printing, a developer unit is arranged adjacent to the image carrier element, the developer unit directing a liquid developer having toner particles to the image carrier element, the toner particles crossing over to the image carrier element corresponding to previously-generated potential images. A raster unit is arranged adjacent to the developer unit. The raster unit transports the liquid developer to the developer unit by use of a raster. An electrical voltage is applied between the raster unit and the developer unit in order to exert a targeted field effect on the toner particles in a direction towards the developer unit. A chamber scraper having a dosing scraper is arranged adjacent to the raster unit and having liquid developer having the toner particles which are already charged. From the chamber scraper the raster unit accepts the liquid developer via the dosing scraper. The chamber scraper is arranged and operable such that the dosing scraper is washed over by the liquid developer.

The invention relates to a method according to which print data determine the image elements of a printing format to be printed on a substrate. According to the inventive method, the surface tension of a printing liquid () is influenced depending on the printing date that pertains to the respective image element.

Method and printer device for transferring printing fluid onto a carrier material as well as appertaining printing drum

In a method and device to generate a print image on a carrier material, a surface of a print carrier is coated with a layer which is one of ink-repelling and ink-attracting. In the structuring process, ink-attracting regions and ink-repelling regions are generated. Ink that adheres to the ink-attracting regions and that is not absorbed by the ink-repelling regions is applied on the surface. The applied ink is transferred onto the carrier material. Before a new structure process on the same surface of the print carrier, the surface is cleaned and recoated with said layer. Before the application of said layer, a wetting-aiding substance is applied with a molecular layer thickness. A surfactant with hydrophilic molecule sections is used as the wetting-aiding substance.

Printing device and method, in which a humidity promoter is applied prior to the ink-repellent or ink-receptive layer

In a device and method for electrographic printing or copying, a latent image carrier is provided having a potential pattern corresponding to an image pattern. An applicator pattern is provided that carries a liquid layer of ink spaced from a surface of the latent image carrier by an air gap. A surface of the applicator element is provided with a structure with which detachment of droplets from the liquid layer is facilitated, the structure having a plurality of first areas having an increased electrical conductivity, a plurality of second areas that differ from a remaining surface based on a portion of surface energy, and a plurality of third areas formed as microscopic elevations. A force field is applied in the air gap to act on the liquid layer. By overcoming the air gap, droplets are transferred from the liquid layer on the surface of the latent image carrier by overcoming the air gap for inking a latent image to create an inked image.
