An internal combustion engine system includes an internal combustion engine having a cylinder, an air intake system to feed air to the cylinder, an exhaust gas system to feed exhaust gas away from the cylinder, a turbocharger including a turbocharger turbine operatively connected to a turbocharger compressor, wherein the air intake system is arranged to feed intake air via the turbocharger compressor and wherein the exhaust gas system is arranged to feed exhaust gas via the turbocharger turbine so as to drive the turbocharger compressor, and wherein the internal combustion engine system further includes a positive displacement machine arranged in the exhaust gas system downstream of the turbocharger turbine. The internal combustion engine system further includes a variable drive unit to drive the positive displacement machine. The internal combustion engine system controls the drive unit so as to control a flow of exhaust gas through the positive displacement machine.

Provided are methods for operating an internal combustion engine system including: an internal combustion engine provided with a plurality of cylinders, each of which being provided with an air inlet valve and an exhaust gas valve; a fuel supply system configured to supply fuel to the cylinders; an air intake system and an exhaust gas system; a turbocharging arrangement comprising an intake air compressor arranged in the air intake system and an exhaust gas turbine arranged in the exhaust gas system, wherein the intake air compressor is operatively connected to the exhaust gas turbine; a controllable gas feeding device arranged in the air intake system downstream the intake air compressor; an exhaust gas aftertreatment system arranged downstream the exhaust gas turbine; and a wastegate.

Method for operating an internal combustion engine system

The invention relates to a method of operating a four stroke internal combustion engine system (), the engine system () comprising:&#x2014;a four stroke internal combustion engine () provided with an intake duct (),&#x2014;a turbo compressor (&#x2033;) arranged to compress intake flow in the intake duct (), and&#x2014;a displacement machine () provided in the intake duct () downstream the turbo compressor (&#x2033;), wherein the displacement machine () is arranged to displace intake flow from an inlet to an outlet thereof. The method comprises the step of: operating the displacement machine () in a first mode where a pressure ratio (PR) given by a pressure at the outlet of the displacement machine () divided by a pressure at the inlet of the displacement machine () is substantially equal to 1. The invention also relates to a four stroke internal combustion engine system arranged to be operated by the above method.

Method of operating a four stroke internal combustion engine system

The invention relates to a method of controlling transient behaviour of an internal combustion engine () being provided with a turbocharger () and a variable inlet guide vanes assembly () arranged upstream a compressor () of the turbocharger (). The method comprises determining a current operational condition indicative of transient behaviour, and, if said transient behaviour requires compressor acceleration: determining a desired operational condition of the compressor (), and controlling the position of the variable inlet guide vanes assembly () based on the desired operational condition of the compressor ().

An internal combustion engine system includes an internal combustion engine, a first turbine unit receiving exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine, the turbine unit having a compressor for compressing intake air and feeding the intake air by an air intake line to the internal combustion engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation line connecting the air intake line with an exhaust as line of the internal combustion engine at a position upstream the first turbine unit. A bypass line connects the exhaust gas recirculation line to the exhaust gas line at a position downstream of the turbine unit, the bypass line having an arrangement for controlling the exhaust gas flow from the exhaust gas recirculation line to the exhaust gas line.

Internal combustion engine system for exhaust gas recovery

An internal combustion engine system includes an internal combustion engine, an exhaust system, an exhaust gas recirculation circuit and a turbocharger including a first turbine interacting with a first compressor for charging air to the internal combustion engine. An exhaust gas recirculation passage is arranged to divert exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine upstream the first turbine and to debouch the exhaust gases downstream the first compressor. The internal combustion engine includes a bleed air channel which is located to divert compressed air at a location in or down&#xac;stream from the first compressor and upstream of the internal combustion engine. A second turbine is arranged for receiving bleed air from the bleed air channel to recover energy from the bleed air channel. A vehicle including such an internal combustion engine system is also provided.

A method of controlling turbine efficiency in a turbo unit provided on an internal combustion engine includes providing a flow of gas in an area upstream a turbine at a direction different to the flow of exhaust gases in the same area, regulating the flow by a valve, and controlling the valve from a control unit having at least boost pressure and/or EGR flow as input parameters.
