Proposed are concepts for predicting the likelihood of a brain injury of a subject resulting from a fall event experienced by the subject. Such concepts may therefore be useful for determining a need for further medical assessment or treatment of a fall by the subject. According to an exemplary concept, data from one or more sensors is used to determine information about a fall of a subject. Such information is then used in conjunction with a prediction algorithm to derive a probability of a brain injury.

Predicting the probability of a brain injury of a subject resulting from a fall

A method includes obtaining first measurements of movement of a user, processing the first measurements of movement to determine whether the user has fallen, and initiating a revocation period to determine if the user stands up in response to determining that the user has fallen. During the revocation period, the method also includes obtaining second measurements of movement of the user and processing the second measurements of movement to determine whether the user stands up before the revocation period expires. The first and second measurements of movement are measured by a movement sensor of the device. In response to determining that the user has not stood up before the revocation period expired, the method also includes automatically sending a fall alert to an emergency service. The fall alert includes data that provides an indication that the user has fallen.

Monitoring a subject

According to an aspect, there is provided a computer-implemented method of monitoring a subject. The method comprises, following detection of a first fall by the subject and a revocation of a fall alert for the first fall due to detecting the subject has stood up after the first fall, obtaining first measurements of movement of the subject; determining a first value of at least one mobility characteristic of the subject from the obtained first movement measurements; determining if the mobility of the subject has degraded after the first fall based on the first value of the at least one mobility characteristic and a second value of the at least one mobility characteristic, wherein the second value is determined from second movement measurements obtained prior to the first fall; and in response to determining that the mobility of the subject has degraded after the first fall, performing a fall alert action in respect of the first fall. A corresponding apparatus and a computer program product are also provided.

A method of controlling a device that includes a receiver and a movement sensor includes (a) deactivating the receiver; (b) while the receiver is deactivated, analyzing measurements from the movement sensor to determine a measure of the distance the device has moved from a first location; and (c) in the event that it is determined from the measurements from the movement sensor that the device has moved from the first location by more than a threshold distance, activating the receiver and using the receiver to obtain a second measurement of the location of the device.

There is provided a method of detecting erroneous measurements of the position of a device, the device comprising position measurement means, the method comprising determining the state of motion of a user of the device from a plurality of possible states; predicting the position of the device using a plurality of models and the determined state of motion of the user, each model corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of possible states; measuring the position of the device using the position measurement means; comparing the predicted position of the device to the measured position of the device; and determining whether the measured position of the device is erroneous based on the result of the step of comparing.

Method of estimating the position of a device and an apparatus implementing the same

This invention relates to a method of selecting an optimal viewing angle position for a camera. A first quantitative score is determined for a first viewing angle position of the camera using pre-selected regions of interest as reference areas, the determining being performed in accordance to a pre-defined quantitative score rule. The angle position is adjusted from the first viewing angle position towards at least one second viewing angle position. For each at least one second viewing angle position a second quantitative score is determined in accordance to the pre-defined quantitative score rule, and finally a target viewing angle position is determined based on the determined quantitative scores.
