A retractable work surface for a chair is provided for a chair that has a pair of arms. The work surface has a removable plate that can be coupled to one of the chair arms or the other. An L-shaped rod is coupled on one end to the plate so that is can rotate with respect to the plate. The other end of the rod has a bracket on one side and a tray on the other side. The bracket and tray can rotate as a unit with respect to the rod. The work surface is easily moved from one arm to the other by removing the plate from one arm and moving it to the other, and by reversing the rod and bracket. The work surface can also easily be retrofit to existing chairs by simply mounting the plate to one of the chair arms.

Retractable work surface for a chair

A chair having reclining capabilities is provided for use with infirm or geriatric patients. The chair includes a fabric seat and back which is formed from woven elastomeric yarns which allow by directional strips. The woven fabric provides air circulation to the patient to help prevent skin ulcerations and other ailments produced by prolonged contact. The woven fabric also allows for quick draining and drying due to liquid contact. The seat and back in the preferred embodiment are formed from extruded aluminum members which engage the fabric in a taut condition i.e. by resilient lateral supports.

Articulated chair for health care

A furniture structure and method are provided for chairs or other furniture as used in offices and homes. The structure provides an improved method of assembly using stretchable fabric spaced between opposing side frame members. Inserts attached to the fabric are used to selectively draw the fabric towards the side frames with threaded members so that a desirable tension can be applied to the fabric for comfort and aesthetic purposes. When worn the fabric can be easily replaced in the field by unskilled consumers.

Furniture structure and method

A chair comprises a stowable tray in which the tray is shaped like a rhomboid and folds across the seat of the chair at an angle with respect to the chair back. A spring provides assistance when the stowable tray is drawn from its housing. Additionally, a number of noise mufflers are provided, which make the chair well suited for use in settings where silence is valued.

A lightweight chair capable of stacking for storage purposes is provided with collapsible, adjustable arms. The arms can be raised to a desired height where they automatically lock in place for use. The lock assembly can be manually released in order to adjust the height of the arms and coil springs prevent the arms from inadvertently collapsing against the seat frame and possibly injuring the hand of the user.

A chair seat is provided with track means and the arm support strut with sliding means for retraction of the armrests from one extended position when the armrests are in use, to one collapsed position conveniently and aesthetically out of the way when the armrests are not in use or to permit easier user access and chair mobility.

Adjustable chair back

A chair arm is pivotally movable from a normal raised position to a collapsed position. The chair back is vertically slidably mounted on a support to permit a connection between the forward portion of the arm and the upper end of an arm support to be moved to a position at the rear of the chair seat and the lower end of the backrest, wherein the arm is vertical adjacent the edge of the back, and the strut is horizontal adjacent the edge of the seat.
