A wrapped thermoelectric power source having an inner and an outer insulator is provided within a housing formed, at least partially, by an upper and lower thermal transfer elements. The thermoelectric power source including a plurality of coupled pairs of thin film materials possessing thermoelectric properties, the pairs disposed on a flexible substrate and electrically coupled in any series/parallel combination, with the flexible substrate wrapped around an inner thermal insulator. The thermoelectric power source may be sized such that at least a portion of an electronics module may be disposed at least partly within the inner thermal insulator. The electronics module is electrically coupled to the thermoelectric power source, and includes components for voltage regulation and/or power conditioning. A mechanical means, connected to both the upper and the lower thermal transfer elements, holds those elements substantially adjacent opposite sides of the thermoelectric power source while preventing thermal shorting between the upper and lower thermal transfer elements. In one aspect, the electronics module further includes applications circuitry such as, but not limited to, one or more of sensors, data storage, signal processing, computational resources and wireless communication circuitry.

A composition, method, and system for recording an image. The system includes a multiphase imaging material in which energy is absorbed by an antenna material. The absorbed energy causes the reaction of an activator and a color-forming material to form a mark. A fixer is employed to retard the fading of the mark.

A fluid dispensing system, including a photon source disposed on a moveable carriage and a fluid ejector array having a plurality of fluid ejection elements disposed on a substrate. Each fluid ejection element includes a fluid ejector, and a photodetector electrically coupled to the fluid ejector. Moving said photon source over at least a portion of the fluid ejector array, selectively illuminates the photodetectors, thereby selectively activating the fluid ejectors coupled to the illuminated photodetectors.

Photonically activated fluid dispensing system and methods

A fluid ejector head, including a fluid ejector disposed on an ejector support, and a photodetector electrically coupled to the fluid ejector. The fluid ejector head also includes a photon source photonically coupled only to the photodetector. Photons emitted from the photon source interact with the photodetector and generate an activation signal. The activation signal in turn activates the fluid ejector ejecting a fluid away from the fluid ejector.

Photonically activated fluid ejector apparatus and methods

A method and a medium for laser imaging is herein disclosed. The medium incorporates one or more types of microstructures having a predetermined heat or radiation modifiable optical characteristic such as color, scattering, diffusion, diffraction, interference and iridescence. Associated intimately with the microstructures is a radiation antenna that acts to absorb radiation from a radiation source. The radiation antenna and source are attuned to one another to efficiently transfer energy therebetween and subsequently to the microstructures; this transfer of energy results in the modification of an optical characteristic of the microstructures to form an image on the medium. The medium has one or more layers that may include both the radiation antenna and the microstructures. Alternatively, the microstructures and radiation antenna may be included in separate layers. Coatings that incorporate one or more layers that include distinct microstructures and radiation antennae are also contemplated.

A transparent active-matrix display based on a substrate has a multiplicity of transparent active pixel elements arranged in an array and transparent electrical connections to each pixel, whereby each of the pixel elements is adapted to be set independently to two or more states. In some embodiments, the substrate may also be transparent.

A layered image-forming composite can include a substrate having a background color layer and a color-forming layer applied thereon. The color-forming layer includes a leuco dye that can be developed upon exposure to energy to produce a developed color. The background layer and the color-forming layer can each contribute to the overall appearance of the composite either before and/or after development of the leuco dye. In one aspect, the color-forming layer can have a thickness sufficiently thin to allow a portion of the fixed background color to be visible through a developed portion of the color-forming layer. Optionally, the color-forming layer can be applied in a filter pattern, e.g., halftone, moir&#xe9;, stochastic, etc. in order to provide unique visual effects to the layered composite.

A coating includes an antenna uniformly distributed in both a matrix and a leuco-dye phase of the coating. A method for preparing an imaging material includes providing a powder having an activator and an antenna, dissolving the activator/antenna powder to form an activator/matrix pre-polymer solution, providing a leuco-dye alloy, and dispersing the leuco-dye alloy into the activator/matrix pre-polymer solution to form a radiation-curable paste. An image-recording medium includes a matrix having an antenna and an activator, and an alloy dispersed in the matrix as an independent phase. The alloy includes an antenna, a leuco-dye, and an accelerator.

A method of marking an optical recording medium is provided. The method includes providing a curable material on a non-data surface of the optical recording medium. An energy source interacts with the curable material to form permanent text and/or images on the optical recording medium. The energy source includes a laser that produces energy at a frequency absorbed by the curable material. The method does not require specialized equipment and allows for increased amounts of information to be marked on the optical recording medium.
