A screen has first and second sides to receive at least one beam on the first side and to display an image on the second side opposite the first side. The beam represents the image. The first side includes a collimating structure to direct the beam from the first side through first striped regions of the screen to the second side. The screen includes second striped regions, positioned between the first and second sides, to emit near-IR light to the second side in response to an excitation source that is selected from a group consisting of an electrical excitation source and a photoluminescence excitation source. The second side includes a diffusion layer. The first side is viewable to detect a portion of the emitted near-IR light reflected back from the second side through the first striped regions to the first side. The detected portion is processable to determine a position touch on the second side.

Near-infrared emitting touch screen

A rear-projection display. The display includes image modulation apparatus for projecting at least a first beam representing an image to be displayed. The display also includes a screen for receiving the first beam on a first side and displaying the image on a second side, opposite the first side. The screen includes energy-responsive apparatus for emitting near-IR light away from the second side. The display also includes a camera for detecting reflected near-IR light and processing circuitry for processing the detecting reflected near-IR light to determine a position touch on the second side.

Pointing system and method

An apparatus and method are provided to determine the occurrence and location of an interaction with an interface, particularly with an image of a user interface that may be projected or otherwise produced on a surface. The apparatus uses one or more single-element sensors (such as a photodiode) to sense and capture light readings of a scene, the readings corresponding to a plurality of structured light images injected within the presentation of the interface. The readings are compared to a baseline set of readings to determine the occurrence and location of an interaction event by an obstacle (i.e., a finger or a stylus) such as a touch event or a movement of the obstacle.

Interaction detection using structured light images

Given an incoming stream of interlaced video, data for each field is analyzed to detect a progressive frame cadence. If a progressive frame cadence is detected, a set of instructions is generated to instruct a de-interlacing unit which fields were mastered from the same progressive frame. The similarity in motion between two consecutive fields and the correlation between two consecutive fields is used to detect the presence of cadences and breaks in cadences. Breaks in cadences are continuously detected in order to characterize the source as video and prevent false detection of cadences.

Method for detecting film pulldown cadences

System and method for multistage frame rate conversion. A method comprises receiving an incoming frame at a first frame rate, and determining whether a fault condition exists. The method also includes if the fault condition does not exist, toggling a write buffer pointer from a first frame buffer to a second frame buffer, and storing the incoming frame in the second frame buffer. The method additionally includes if the fault condition exists, determining whether a previously received frame was repeated, discarding the incoming frame if the previously received incoming frame was not repeated, and storing the incoming frame in one of the frame buffers pointed to by the write buffer pointer if the previously received incoming frame was repeated.

System and method for multistage frame rate conversion

System and method for combining interlaced video frames. A method embodiment for displaying a de-interlaced video sequence includes receiving a video stream, decoding the video stream to produce a sequence of interlaced video fields, creating a first de-interlaced video frame by combining at least two interlaced video fields, determining a cadence of the first de-interlaced video frame, and outputting the first de-interlaced video frame in a next de-interlaced video frame display time slot if the first de-interlaced video frame has proper cadence, while if the de-interlaced video frame has a broken cadence, re-outputting a previously outputted de-interlaced video frame in the next de-interlaced video frame display time slot. A feed-forward control signal may be used to determine which de-interlaced video frame to output and helps to minimize latency as well as storage requirements.
