A closure is shown for an equipment sub having a generally cylindrical aperture leading to a bore and a bore stop. The closure is a circular body having a O-ring seal on a peripheral flange. A common actuating means moves spaced arcuate segments located on the circular body outwardly into contact with the bore stop provided in the bore of the equipment sub.

A pilot-operated, pressure-loaded, movable diaphragm-type gas-flow regulator valve is shown which is used in flow control applications. A regulator body internal port arrangement interconnects two independent throttling mechanisms in series. Two throttle plates are located within the regulator valve body relative to an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. A movable diaphragm is positioned relative to a throttle plate by a separate pilot control system to vary the area of throttle plate exposed to flow, and thus, the flow rate of the regulator valve. The throttle plates each have drilled flow apertures which control flow through the valve. Smaller flow apertures are opened before larger flow apertures as the valve diaphragm lifts, thereby ensuring stability at low-flow conditions, while providing high capacity at maximum diaphragm lift. The configuration of the throttle plates, the inlet chamber, and the outlet chamber substantially reduces operational noise of the gas-flow regulator by minimizing turbulent flow within the regulator valve body.

Method and apparatus for regulating gas flow

The present invention relates to an apparatus for separating liquids and solids from a gas stream and simultaneously coalescing liquids from the gas stream. The apparatus includes a closed vessel having a longitudinally extending length, an initially open interior, an input port at an extent and an output port at an opposite extent thereof. There is a partition located within the vessel interior that divides the vessel interior into a first stage and a second stage. There is at least one opening in the partition. A separator/coalescer filter element is disposed within the vessel to sealingly extend from within the first stage through the opening into the second stage. There is a chevron-type seal or an O-ring seal between the filter element and the opening. The input port, vessel interior, separator/coalescer filter element and output port together define a flow passage within the apparatus, whereby the gas stream flows into the first stage through the input port and through the filter element hollow core, thereby filtering solids out of the gas stream, separating liquids from the gas stream, and pre-coalescing liquids in the gas stream. The gas stream then flows along the hollow core past the partition and back through the filter element into the second stage through a louvered impingement baffle, thereby coalescing liquids out of the gas stream, the gas stream then exiting the second stage through the outlet port. The louvered impingement baffle conditions the gas stream to create a scrubbing effect on any fine mist exiting the separator/coalescer filter element.

The gas stream then flows along the hollow core past the partition and back through the filter element into the second stage, thereby coalescing liquids out of the gas stream, the gas stream then exiting the second stage through the outlet port.

A homogeneous mixture of a base and a binder material or fiber that is compressed to form a mat or sheet of selected porosity. The binder material has at least a surface with a melting temperature lower than that of the base fiber. The sheet is formed into a selected geometric shape and thermally fused to bind the base fiber into a porous filter element. The preferred shape is a helically wound tube of plural sheets, each sheet being self-overlapped and compressed to overlap another sheet. Each sheet preferably heated and compressed individually and the sheets may be selected to have different porosities and densities. The binder fiber is selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and resin, and the base fiber is selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and natural.

Method of making a filter element

Coreless and spirally wound non-woven filter element

A vortical-type separator for removing from the gas stream suspended particulates present in the gas stream has an internally generated scavenging gas flow and a pulse jet system for cleaning scavenging gas filter elements. The separator has two or more conduits that are coaxially positioned with an annular clearance at their ends. A gas swirl device creates a swirling motion, causing heavier particulates to be discharged out the annular clearance or ejection port into a scavenging gas plenum. A flow path is created between the scavenging gas plenum and the outlet of the separator, with the pressure differential between the outlet and the ejection port causing scavenging gas to flow to the outlet. A frame is mounted in the flow path over which a bag filter is secured. The dust-laden scavenging gas flows through the bag filter and out the outlet. A nozzle is positioned at the mouth of the bag filter for periodically discharging a pulse of clean gas into the bag filter reverse to the flow of the scavenging gas. The pulse creates a shock wave, distending the bag filter to dislodge accumulated solids on the exterior of the bag filter.

A separator is disclosed for removing from a gas stream suspended particulates such as liquid droplets and finely divided solids. A housing chamber encloses a tube that contains a gas swirl device for imparting a swirling motion to the gas stream entering the inlet of the tube. A separator conduit is axially aligned with the tube and has its upstream end coaxially located in the downstream end of the tube, defining an annular ejection port. Suspended particulates and scavenging gas are discharged into the chamber through the annular ejection port. The downstream end of the separation conduit is in communication with the outlet of the housing. A passage is provided for returning the scavenging gas to the main gas stream at the outlet of the housing. A separation device is located in the passage to cleanse the scavenging gas of suspended particulates prior to recombination with the main gas stream.
