There is described an exhaust gas turbocharger which comprises a compressor and a turbine having an adjusting drive for adjusting a turbine geometry. A performance characteristic is determined depending on a turbine output, a mass flow through the turbine and a gas temperature upstream of the turbine. A mass flow characteristic is determined depending on the mass flow through the turbine and the gas temperature upstream of the turbine and a gas pressure downstream of the turbine. Depending on the performance characteristic and the mass flow characteristic, an adjuster position of the adjusting drive for adjusting the turbine geometry is determined using a characteristic diagram. For control, an adjusting signal for controlling the adjusting drive is determined depending on the adjuster position for adjusting the turbine geometry. For diagnosis of the exhaust gas turbocharger, the exhaust gas turbocharger is diagnosed depending on the adjuster position.

Method and device for the control and diagnosis of an exhaust gas turbocharger

An electrical booster in an internal combustion engine with an exhaust gas turbocharger is activated so that the electrical booster is connected with the minimum possible power consumption. The connection of the electric booster depends on the power balance, the electric booster being activated when the instantaneously available compressor power of the exhaust gas turbocharger is insufficient to provide the necessary power.

Method for controlling an electrically driven compressor

A sensor device having an incremental encoder and a measuring sensor generating a measuring signal is assigned to two control devices. A synchronization device generates a synchronization signal. A conditioned first measuring signal is generated in the first control device as a function of the measuring signal. A conditioned second measuring signal is generated in the second control device as a function of the measuring signal. The value of the conditioned first measuring signal at a predefined time after the reception of the synchronization signal in the first control device is transmitted to the second control device. The second control device synchronizes the conditioned second measuring signal as a function of the values of the conditioned first and second measuring signals that the signals have at the predefined time after the respective reception of the synchronization signal in the first and second control devices.

Method for synchronizing at least two control devices

A control device for an internal combustion engine has a device for generating control commands for controlling final control elements in accordance with at least one measured value. The control device also has a communications interface for exchanging messages with a control unit for final control elements. A counter is also provided, the status of the counter being dependent on pulses of a measuring signal of an incremental crankshaft angle sensor. The control commands contain desired counter statuses for carrying out the control task. A control unit also has a counter whose counter status depends on the pulses of the measuring signal of the incremental crankshaft angle sensor. Also provided is a device for carrying out the control tasks in accordance with the counter status and the desired counter status.

Control device for final control elements of an internal combustion engine, control unit for actuator drives of an internal combustion engine and a method for controlling an internal combustion engine

In order to control electromechanically activated charge cycle valves, a circuit is provided in which placement control elements actuate an output stage for the electromechanically activated charge cycle valves and control a gentle placement of the charge cycle valves in a respective end position. For the purpose of communication with the operational control unit of the internal combustion engine, a digital communications computer is provided which provides the placement control element with timing signals. As a result, the placement control elements are freed of communications functions and can be dedicated to performing the placement control in real time.

Circuit for controlling at least one electromechanically activated inlet valve and at least one electromechanically activated outlet valve of an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders to which in each case at least one inlet valve and one outlet valve are assigned. A valve drive is assigned for controlling the inlet valve and a valve drive is assigned for controlling the outlet valve. The valve control time for the inlet valve of a cylinder is calculated at least one segment later than the valve control time for the outlet valve of the same cylinder. The segment is determined by the phase angle between the upper dead centers of two pistons of cylinders which follow one another directly in the ignition sequence.
