In an apparatus at a carding machine having a cylinder, working elements and displaceable holding elements, which determine the carding gap between the cylinder clothing and the working elements, a displacement device actuatable by thermal energy supply is provided for the working elements in order to compensate for changes in the carding gap that arise during operation, and at least one adjusting element cooperates with a fluid. Thermal energy is conveyable to the fluid. In order to keep the carding gap constant or substantially constant in a structurally simple manner, the fluid is expansible by thermal energy supply and the adjusting element is positionally displaceable by expansion and/or contraction of the fluid.

An apparatus on a spinning preparation machine, especially a flat card, roller card, cleaner or the like, with a cooling system, a roller has a cylindrical peripheral surface and a casing opposite to and spaced from this peripheral surface, a carding region where carding work is carried out and heat is generated being present between the peripheral surface of the roller and a part of the casing. A cooling medium enters the interior void space of the roller, passes through and exits again. In order to reduce or avoid thermal expansion of the roller in a structurally simple manner, the cooling medium is a cooling gas, especially air, which is capable of absorbing heat in the interior void space of the roller and dissipating it from the interior void space of the roller.

In a device on a spinning preparatory machines, especially a carding machine, cleaning machine or the like for cotton having at least one separating blade for impurities, which is associated with a clothed roller, for example a licker-in or the like, wherein the separating blade is arranged on a support which is displaceable parallel to (concentrically with) the periphery of the roller, the distance between the separating blade and a fixed-position counter-element bordering the separation opening is variable. In the event of a change in the position of the separating blade, in order to provide uniform removal of impurities and uniform supply of air into an extraction chamber, the separating blade is associated with an extraction chamber which is mounted on the support, and the extraction chamber cooperates with a fixed-position guide element which is able to guide the separated impurities and/or air into the opening of the extraction chamber.

A fiber processing machine includes a first roll having a circumferential surface carrying a first clothing; a second roll having a circumferential surface carrying a second clothing and adjoining the first roll for taking over fiber material carried by the first roll as the first and second rolls rotate; a nip defined between the first and second clothings at a location where the first and second clothings are closest to one another; a bight defined by a generally triangular area immediately adjoining the nip and bounded by an end thereof and by circumferential length portions of the first and second clothings extending away from the nip end; and a cutting edge positioned in the bight and cooperating with one of the rolls for separating impurities from the fiber material as the fiber material is carried past the cutting edge by the roll clothing.

A carding machine includes a main carding cylinder having a circumferential surface carrying a cylinder clothing thereon; and a cooperating with the main carding cylinder. The traveling flats assembly includes a plurality of clothed flat bars arranged in a series and a flat drive for moving the clothed flat bars in an endless path having a working path portion along which the flat bar clothings cooperate with the cylinder clothing and a return path portion; and a grinding assembly for sharpening the cylinder clothing. The grinding assembly includes a grinding flat bar adapted to be positioned in the series of clothed flat bars to be moved by the flat drive in unison with the clothed flat bars; and a grinding element mounted on the grinding flat bar. The grinding element is in a contacting relationship with the cylinder clothing along the working path portion of the traveling flats assembly.
