The present disclosure provides various surgical instruments and delivery systems to properly implant spinous stabilization devices, such as for example, interspinous, interlaminar stabilization devices, in a less invasive manner than what is currently performed. The delivery system may be a tubular delivery system through which instruments and devices can pass. Methods for using these surgical instruments and delivery systems are also provided.

Delivery systems for interspinous, interlaminar stabilization devices and methods of use

The present disclosure provides adjustable spinal devices, instruments for implanting the spinal devices, methods for adjusting the height and lordosis angles of the spinal devices and methods for implanting such devices. An adjustable spinal fusion device includes an upper plate component having an outer surface for placement against an endplate of a vertebral body and a lower plate component having an outer surface for placement against an endplate of a vertebral body. The device further includes a first translation member configured to move longitudinally relative to the upper and lower plates to adjust a distance between the upper and lower plates and a second translation member configured to move longitudinally relative to the upper and lower plates to adjust an angle between the upper and lower plates.

Adjustable spinal implants, associated instruments and methods

The present disclosure provides adjustable spinal devices, instruments for implanting the spinal devices, methods for adjusting the height and/or lordosis angles of the spinal devices and methods for implanting such devices. An adjustable spinal fusion device includes an upper plate having an outer surface for placement against a first vertebral body and a lower plate having an outer surface for placement against a second vertebral body. The device further includes a translation member configured to move longitudinally relative to the upper and lower plates to adjust an angle between the upper and lower plates. The translation member may include an angled surface or wedge for cooperating with a ramp on the device to pivot the proximal end of the upper endplate relative to the proximal end of the lower endplate and thereby adjust a distance between the distal ends of the endplates.

An implantable, modular spine stabilization system that allows for multi-level treatment of the spine by providing either rigid fixation or dynamic stabilization at different levels to be treated is provided. This modular spine stabilization system may be configured to span multiple spine levels, and have a curvature that closely matches the curvature of the spine over those multiple levels to be treated. Further, the modular spine stabilization system allows adjustment of the curvature of the overall system such that the system may be adapted for a patient for a customized fit. Instruments are also provided for the assembly and/or implantation of the modular spine stabilization system. The associated instruments may include instruments for adjusting the curvature of the system to the patient, and for implanting the curved system into the patient. The instruments may be configured for implantation of the system in a minimally invasive surgery.

Modular spine stabilization system and associated instruments

In one aspect, a surgical retractor having sliders configured to have tissue engaging members connected thereto and slider drives including operating members. The operating members are rotatable to cause the slider drives to shift the sliders relative to one another. The surgical retractor includes a coupler having a coupling configuration wherein the coupler connects the slider drives and rotation of one of the operating members causes movement of the sliders. The coupler also has a decoupling configuration wherein the coupler disconnects the slider drives and rotation of the one operating member causes movement of fewer sliders than the sliders that are moved with the coupler in the coupling configuration. The retractor has an actuator connected to the coupler and movable between a dependent slider movement position and an independent slider movement position to shift the coupler between the coupling configuration and the decoupling configuration.

A bone fastener assembly instrument that can assemble a two-component bone fastener during surgery is provided. The bone fastener may be of a type that comprises a threaded bolt and nut for securing an implantable device to bone, such as a spinous process. A method for using the bone fastener assembly instrument is also provided.

An interspinous, interlaminar space expander and measurement instrument for preparing an interspinous, interlaminar space between adjacent vertebrae to receive an implantable interspinous, interlaminar stabilization device is provided. The instrument includes an indicator which measures both height of the space and applied force to maintain that height.

Surgical instruments to properly implant interspinous/interlaminar stabilization devices, and instrumentation kits containing these instruments are provided. These surgical instruments may be configured to be disposable, or for single patient use, and therefore do not require resterilization for reuse, thus reducing risk of infection as a result of reuse and logistical costs associated with these resterilization procedures.

Instruments for interspinous or interlaminar stabilization devices

A modular, customizable system that provides components for assembling an implantable device is provided. The system allows the user to assemble an implantable spine stabilization device that is flexible and allows dynamic stabilization. The same system also provides components for assembling a rigid or non-flexible fusion-enabling spine stabilization device. The components of the system are easily interchangeable, allowing the user the ability to customize the assembled device for a true fit with the patient, as well as allow an easy conversion of the dynamic device into a fusion-enabling device. Associated insertion instruments and methods of use are also disclosed.

Modular, customizable spine stabilization system

A functionally dynamic stabilization unit and system for treatment of spinal instability are provided. Each unit, and collectively, the system, is configured to control flexion, extension and translation of the affected unstable vertebral area, thereby stabilizing the vertebral segments by restoring normal function. This is achieved by providing a unit and system that allow for lateral bending, axial compression, rotation, anterior segmental height adjustment, and posterior segmental height adjustment. The unit and system provide sufficient segmental stiffness, while also limiting, or controlling, the range of motion (i.e., sufficient stiffness in the neutral or active zone, while limiting or preventing motion outside of the active zone) to stabilize the vertebral segments. In use, the system mimics the natural movement of the normal spine. Furthermore, the system includes a rigid, fusion-promoting coupler configured for use in an adjacent level, or as a substitute for the functionally dynamic unit. The modularity of the system allows adjustment over time and easier revision surgery, and is configured for minimally-invasive, delivery or implantation.
