A sealed electric generator includes a casing () housing a stator () and a rotor () connected to a shaft (), wherein the shaft () is provided with a duct housing and a lead () carrying electric power from an exciter () to rotor field windings (). The duct has a sealing unit for preventing gas contained inside of the casing () from reaching the exciter (). The sealing unit has first and second seals () defining between them a chamber (), such that gas that leaks past a seal () enters the chamber ().

A rotating machine (), in particular a compressor or turbine, has a rotor shaft () which is rotatable about an axis () and is provided with at least one slot (). The mechanical stresses in the region of the slot are reduced in that the at least one slot () has a slot bottom () with an elliptic cross-sectional contour ().

Rotating machine

A rotor shaft, particularly for a gas turbine, includes a cooling air supply disposed inside the rotor shaft and a plurality of cooling air ducts connected to the cooling air supply and extending essentially radially outward toward an outside of the shaft, wherein each of the cooling air ducts has an elliptic cross section.
