The invention relates to a method for producing glass tubes with a cross section of a noncircular form by reshaping. This method includes at least providing a glass tube, heating the glass tube, providing at least one reshaping tool, which has a forming body with a forming area for reshaping the heated glass tube, the forming body including at least one open-porous material, setting a gas pressure in the interior of the reshaping tool lower than 90 kPa, so that a negative pressure is produced on the forming area, and reshaping the heated glass tube by applying a compressive force perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the glass tube, the compressive force being generated by the reshaping tool and being applied to the outer surface of the glass tube, and the outer surface of the glass tube being fixed by the negative pressure.

Method for producing a glass tube with a cross section of a noncircular form by reshaping

The glass tube assembly has an outer glass tube provided with a tapered section and an inner glass tube or rod, which is arranged inside of the outer glass tube and which has a spiral section. The tapered section is formed by one or more projections on the inner surface of the outer glass tube. Each projection extends in a longitudinal direction of the outer glass tube and does not extend around its entire circumference. The internal width of the tapered section is smaller than the outside diameter of the spiral section of the inner glass tube or rod, so that the inner glass tube or rod is reliably prevented from slipping or rotating out of the outer glass tube by its spiral section. A method of making the glass tube assembly is also described.

The double-walled noble metal duct () for conducting a glass melt has an outer noble metal pipe () and an inner noble metal pipe () extending within the outer pipe, so that an inner space () is formed within the inner pipe and an intermediate space () is formed between the inner pipe () and the outer pipe (). The intermediate space is completely filled with glass melt when the double-walled noble metal duct conducts the glass melt, when the outer pipe () has an exhaust vent (). The outer pipe () also has a bottom outlet () communicating with the intermediate space for removal of oxygen bubbles formed on the outer wall. The noble metal duct can be used in glass conditioning and in the manufacture of glass articles that are devoid of polyvalent ions.

The sleeve-type glass melt agitator has a rotatable cylindrical sleeve provided with outwardly protruding vane elements and through-going openings in its outer cylindrical surface to stir the glass melt when the sleeve is rotated. The sleeve type agitator is arranged vertically in a glass melt feed channel in a glass melt feed system for making glass tubes or pipes according to the Vello or down-drawn process. During formation of glass tubes or pipes from the glass melt the sleeve-type agitator is rotated as the glass melt flows downward to prevent formation of schlieren in the glass melt, which causes glass material losses.
