A suction applying device () for applying suction to a sampling unit () for sampling bodily fluid, wherein the suction applying device comprises a syringe body () with a hollow interior () and a piston () movable inside the hollow interior of the syringe body. The syringe body has a rear end () through which a piston rod () connected to the piston extends outside of the syringe body and by means of which the piston can be moved, and a front end () opposite the rear end. The suction applying device further comprises a connection arrangement () configured for connection of a sampling unit, wherein the connection arrangement is located at the front end of the syringe body. The suction applying device also comprises a first conduit () having a rear opening () connecting the first conduit to a rear portion () of the hollow interior, in which rear portion a sub-pressure is created when the piston is moved forward inside the hollow interior, and a front opening () by means of which the first conduit is connectable to a sampling unit. The suction applying device also comprises a second conduit () that connects a front portion () of the hollow interior with the exterior of the syringe body, and which front portion is located between the piston and the front end of the syringe body. Also disclosed is an apparatus for sampling bodily fluid, comprising a suction applying device and a sampling unit, as well as a method for detecting a component in a bodily fluid.

A microneedle and a chip are disclosed for extraction of fluids. The microneedle () provided on a substrate (), comprises an elongated body () extending from a distal end () with a bevel () to a proximal end () on the substrate along a longitudinal axis; the elongated body comprises a capillary bore () extending in a longitudinal direction thereof and defines a fluid path (); the proximal end is integrally connected with the substrate and the capillary bore is in fluid communication with a fluid channel () of the substrate. The cross-sectional area of the capillary bore in the distal end is larger than the cross-sectional area of the capillary bore in the proximal end.

Microneedle and a chip

A microfabricated sensor () for detecting a component in bodily fluid, includes: an inlet () for receiving a sample of bodily fluid, a fluid cavity () connected to the inlet for receiving the sample of bodily fluid from the inlet, and an RF resonant cavity (), delimited by walls (). At least one of the walls forms a separating wall (), separating the fluid cavity from the RF resonant cavity, wherein the separating wall is configured such that the dielectric properties of the bodily fluid in the fluid cavity provide an influence on the electromagnetic properties of the RF resonant cavity.

Microfabricated sensor and a method of detecting a component in bodily fluid

The disclosure relates to a microfabricated sensor () comprising at least one hollow microneedle () for minimal invasive extraction of a sample of bodily fluid, a fluid channel () connected to the at least one microneedle for receiving a sample of bodily fluid extracted by the at least one microneedle, a microwave transmission line () coupled to and extending along at least a portion of the fluid channel, such that the dielectric properties of the fluid in the fluid channel provide an influence on the electrical properties of the transmission line. The disclosure further relates to a method of microfabricating such a sensor and a method of sensing the level of a component in bodily fluid of a patient by providing such a sensor.
