The invention relates to a soft starter () for connecting at least one main circuit (), each of which includes a bypass circuit () having a semiconductor switch (). Said soft starter () comprises a control unit () for actuating the bypass circuit (), and the control unit () is equipped with a control signal input (). According to an embodiment of the invention, a motor starter includes a connection module, which includes a second and third interface, wherein the second interface is electrically conductively connected to the third interface. The security evaluation unit can be mechanically coupled to the connection module so that an electrically conductive connection is produced between the first and second interfaces. The secure switch unit can be mechanically coupled to the connection module so that an electrically conductive connection between the third and fourth interfaces is produced, so that, in the coupled state of the security evaluation unit and the secure switch unit to the connection module; there is an electrically conductive connection between the first and fourth interfaces via the connection module, so that the control command can be transmitted from the security evaluation unit via the connection module to the secure switch unit.

A motor starter whose production is improved is specified. In at least one embodiment, the motor starter includes a power semiconductor switch, an electromechanical bypass switch connected in parallel therewith, and control electronics to drive the bypass switch. A semiconductor module has a housing, including a power semiconductor, a cooler bearing against the latter and serving for dissipating heat loss. In at least one embodiment, a spring element, which is supported between housing and cooler, is arranged on the side of the cooler remote from the power semiconductor and prestresses the cooler against the power semiconductor.

A power semiconductor module is disclosed, including a plate-type substrate fitted with at least one component, and a base plate provided for dissipating heat from the component via the substrate. In at least one embodiment, a supporting apparatus, which keeps the substrate in thermal contact with the base plate, has a central pressure bolt adjoined by a plurality of stamps which extend in different directions and are intended to contact-connect the substrate, the individual stamps being at non-uniform distances from the substrate in the mechanically unloaded state of the pressure bolt.
