Navigating from an alert related to a state of a data object to a source of the alert includes displaying alerts in a portal environment. The portal environment has an analytical portal application associated with an analytical data store and a transaction portal application associated with a transaction data store. One of the alerts includes a transaction alert that is associated with a data object in the transaction data and another of the alerts includes an analytical alert that is associated with a data object. An indication of a transaction alert or an analytical alert is received from a user. When the indication is an indication of an analytical alert, navigation occurs to the analytical portal application. When the indication is an indication of the transaction alert, navigation occurs to the transaction portal application.

Providing portal navigation for alerts

In a computer system having several application programs, wherein each application program is configured to manage at least one of several object types, a method of identifying objects includes receiving a first input that a user makes under guidance of an input control in a graphical user interface (GUI) to specify 1) a user-selected object type, 2) a user-selected attribute that is associated with the user-selected object type, and 3) a user-selected attribute value for the user-selected attribute. The method includes executing a search in the computer system for any objects corresponding to the first input. The method includes initiating a first application program that is configured to manage objects of the user-selected object type, wherein the first application program presents a result of the search in the GUI. The input control may remain visible with the application, for executing a new search for the same or another object type.

Input control for identifying objects

Techniques are described for automating the generation of access control information that identifies users that are permitted to access particular business objects used by a computer application. The generation of access control information is based on a characteristic that is shared by the user and the business object to be accessed. The characteristic may be an attribute. The characteristic also may be the identification of a process to determine a characteristic of a user and/or a characteristic of a business object.

Managing access control information

Data structures for use in controlling access to data objects by users of a computer system or computing device are described. The data structures include an access control group data structure, a user access data structure, and a data object access data structure. The access control group data structure stores access control group data. The user access data structure stores user access data. The user access data relates to at least one entry in the access control group data structure. The data object access data structure stores data object access data, which relates to at least one entry in the access control group. Additional data structures described include an access control rule data structure and a characteristic method data structure.
