Systems and methods of controlling transmissions of a media stream are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method performed by a media client for controlling a transmission of a media stream from a media server to the media client may include obtaining a media description of the media stream. The media description may indicate an initial stream element of the consecutive stream elements. Further, the method may include sending a request for the initial stream element. In addition, the method may include requesting, towards a control entity for a session, an establishment of the session or a modification of the session, for associating the media stream with the session. After sending the request for the initial stream element, the method may include receiving a result of the session establishment or session modification request.

Session control for media stream transmission

To control content delivery to plural clients of a mobile communication network, a network entity of the mobile communication network collects geo information of the plural clients and evaluates the collected geo information of the plural clients based on a rule to determine whether the content delivery is to be adapted. The network entity identifies a region for which the content delivery is to be adapted. The network entity selectively outputs a message to a controlling entity if it is determined that the content delivery is to be adapted. The controlling entity controls the content delivery in response to receiving the message, to adapt the content delivery for clients located in the identified region.

Methods and devices for content delivery control

Methods and devices for providing a media description of a media stream to a client are described. The client is subscribed to a media description delivery service. The media description delivery service comprises a media description delivery rule. A request for a media description delivery is sent to a media server. From the media server a media description is received. It is verified that the received media description complies with the media description delivery rule and if the verification is in the affirmative, a delivery of the media description is initiated to the client.

Methods and devices for media description delivery

A technique for registering a device () with a rights issuer system () in a digital rights management (DRM) context is described. The device () is provided with DRM registration information that is required to use protected content. The DRM registration information is generated from rights issuer information on the one hand and device information on the other hand. The DRM registration technique described herein does not require an interactive registration protocol between a rights issuer server () and the device (). Rather, the DRM registration information may be generated and transferred to the device () even if the device () is offline, inactive or switched-off.

To control content delivery to plural clients () of a mobile communication network (), a network entity () of the mobile communication network () collects geo information of the plural clients () and evaluates the collected geo information of the plural clients () based on a rule to determine whether the content delivery is to be adapted. The network entity () selectively outputs a message () to a controlling entity () if it is determined that the content delivery is to be adapted. The controlling entity () controls the content delivery in response to receiving the message (), to adapt the content delivery for clients located in the identified region.

Synchronizing cameras, connected via a telecommunication network, for capturing a multi-view session can be controlled by a synchronization module. The synchronization module determines a multi-view capturing parameter from a capturing parameter that is received from at least one camera. The multi-view capturing parameter is provided by the synchronization module to the cameras participating in the capturing session in order to synchronize the capturing of the multi-view session. Further, a camera device informs the synchronization module of the disposability and capturing parameter of the camera. The camera receives the multi-view capturing parameter for use in capturing the session.

A technique is disclosed for controlling data packet transmissions from a server to a client having a client buffer in accordance with a waiting mode and a dynamic mode. The waiting mode is performed before packets containing data encoded subject to a current bit rate have reached the client buffer; the dynamic mode is performed otherwise. In the waiting mode, down-switches to lower bit rates are allowed but up-switches to higher bit rates are disabled. In the dynamic mode, up-switches and down-switches are both allowed, with adjustments in the bit rate of packets controlled based, in part, on the amount of data contained within the client buffer when packets containing data encoded subject to the current bit rate first reached the client buffer. The two modes help avoid unnecessary rate switches.
