A ventilator having a rotor is mounted in a rotatable manner around an axis of rotation. The rotor includes a plurality of blade-like rotor blades arranged around the axis of rotation. The ventilator includes a sensor device for detecting an object approaching one of the plurality of rotor blades, and a control device that receives signals from the sensor device. The control device extrapolates a trajectory of the object from a position x and a speed v of the object, and adjusts an angular position or rotational speed n of the rotor to allow the object to continue moving along its trajectory without colliding with one of the plurality of rotor blades.

A method for operating a fan system as well as such a fan system. The fan system has a control device having an artificial neural network. The control device controls an electric motor of a backward curved centrifugal fan. The centrifugal fan creates a gas flow that is characterized by an actual flow value, particularly the actual value of a volume flow rate. The actual flow value is not detected by a sensor means, but determined by means of the artificial neural network depending from input variables and based thereon, the electric motor is open loop or closed loop controlled by means of the control device. The motor current and the motor voltage as well as their time-dependent behavior that can be the time derivative (e.g. gradient of first order) or that can be at least one preceding value at a preceding point in time, are provided to an input layer of the artificial neural network. It is particularly advantageous, if the artificial neural network determines an actual value of an output pressure that is fed back internally or externally forming an input variable for the input layer.

A dynamically addressable master-slave system and a method for dynamically addressing slave units includes a master unit and a plurality of slave units, such that the slave units are interconnected with the master unit via a bus system. A method of assigning network addresses for ventilators () in a network. Each ventilator () has a unique serial number in a serial number memory () and a network address in an adjustable network address memory (). A control unit () automatically assigns network addresses to a plurality of ventilators (). To begin with, all ventilators are assigned an identical start-address as network address, and serial number queries with a serial number mask are sent to the start-address. The serial number mask is comprised of definite and indefinite positions, and the ventilators () respond to the serial number mask subject to their serial number. The control unit () assigns unique network addresses to the ventilators () independently of the responses and/or modifies the serial number mask for further serial number queries.
