A method for testing the tightness of a fuel supply system of a motor vehicle is provided. The fuel supply system includes a volume-changing element provided in the fuel tank, the volume of which volume-changing element is in contact with the environment. The fuel tank is customarily sealed off against the environment by way of a valve unit. For testing the tightness, a differential pressure with respect to environment is generated in the tank by way of a gas conveying device, sequentially and thus not simultaneously, the volume-changing element being sealed off against the environment, and the volume-changing element not being sealed off against the environment, a differential pressure with respect to environmental pressure is generated in the volume-changing element or in the tank. The differential pressures are maintained and monitored over a certain period of time, and if after this period of time, the differential pressures still exceed a certain threshold value, a sufficient tightness of the fuel supply system is concluded.

Method for testing the tightness of a fuel supply system

A tank system of a motor vehicle includes a volume modifying element, having a compensation volume, which is provided in the inner chamber of the fuel tank and which is used to equalize the vapor pressure. The compensation volume is connected to the surrounding area. The only connection between the volume modifying element and the surrounding area is formed by a storage unit of the gaseous fuel components and the inner chamber of the fuel tank is connected to the surrounding area by a valve unit. The valve unit is normally open when filling the fuel tank and when exceeding or falling below the pressure limits in the inner chamber of the tank, and is otherwise closed. The storage unit is connected to the valve unit. The volume modifying element and the valve unit are designed in such a way that vehicles which are parked for several days do not undergo diurnal losses due to changes in temperature of the surroundings, due to the fact that the vapor pressure equilibrium in the fuel tank can be maintained by the automatic supply and removal of ambient air in the, or from the, volume modifying element as long as the valve unit remains closed.

A complex cast component of an internal combustion engine, in particular a crankshaft or a camshaft, has a longitudinal axis, a plurality of regions, along the longitudinal axis, and a first cavity. Each of the plurality of regions has a certain cool-down rate during a solidification process of a casting process. The first cavity is arranged in a first region of the plurality of regions and has a volume that depends on a first cool-down rate of the first region. In this way, a material thickness in the first region likewise depends on the first cool-down rate.

Complex cast component and casting method therefor

A method for checking the tightness of a fuel supply system of a motor vehicle is provided. The fuel supply system includes a volume-changing element, which is provided in the fuel tank and the volume of which is connected to the environment. The fuel tank is typically closed off from the environment by way of a valve unit. For tightness testing, a differential pressure with respect to the environment is produced in the tank interior by way of a gas-conveying device while the volume change element is connected to the environment. The differential pressure is held by switching a suitable shut-off valve and is monitored over a certain time span or checked after a certain time span. Sufficient tightness of the fuel supply system is inferred if the differential pressure still exceeds a certain threshold value after the time span.

Method for checking the tightness of a fuel supply system

The invention relates to an oil collecting arrangement for an internal-combustion engine having an oil collecting housing () arranged below a crankcase, which oil collecting housing () has at least two sections of different space depths, in a deeper space section (), an oil scavenging line () being provided by means of which the lubricating oil is delivered to the consuming devices by way of a pump. It is suggested that, in the oil collecting housing (), a separate insertion part () is fastened which, on the one hand, has an oil barrier () aligned transversely to the longitudinal dimension of the oil collecting housing () (), which oil barrier () prevents a flowing back of the lubricating oil from the deeper space section () into the crank space and/or into the flatter space section () in the inclined position of the internal-combustion engine, and which, on the other hand, has oil return ducts () for the lubricating oil flowing back from the cylinder head.

Oil outlet for a combustion engine and method of making same

A sealing system for an internal-combustion engine is provided in which a lubricating-oil-carrying space particularly an oil catching space, is separated by wall elements from adjoining space sections, which wall elements have elastic sealing elements for sealing off the spaces. For the compensation of sealing gap tolerances, a sealing element is provided which has at least two sealing arms which come to rest on the space wall to be sealed off. Despite larger sealing gap tolerances, a secure oil-tight separation of spaces is thereby provided.

Sealing system for an internal-combustion engine

An internal combustion engine includes an oil collector housing positioned beneath a crankcase housing. A lubricating oil pump is positioned inside the oil collector housing, and the oil collector housing contains at least one oil-collecting chamber, into which an oil suction line leads from the lubricating oil pump, forcing the lubricating oil through the delivery side to consumers. A system for supplying lubricating oil to the drive shaft of at least one turbocharger is mounted on the internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil that is fed to the turbocharger is returned via oil lines to the oil-collecting chamber of the internal combustion engine. At least one ascending channel is integrated into the oil collector housing, via which the lubricating oil that has been suctioned off from the turbochargers is returned above the oil level in the oil collecting chamber. Lubricating oil being returned from the turbocharger will be returned above the oil level in the oil trap of the internal combustion engine, even when the vehicle is traveling downhill.
