A wireless electromagnetic coupler arrangement for reactive near field coupling comprising a sequential array of coupling elements which are geometrically arranged one- or two-dimensionally. By means of feeding an unmodulated wave of electromagnetic energy to each of the coupling elements and a respective associated harvester element, in an initial sensing state, an automatic selection of a single coupling element or plural coupling elements which establish a particularly strong and efficient interaction with an inlay is performed. By means of a respective feedback loop, a switchable array of resistances is used to activate the selected coupling element(s) for coupling of information to/from the loop and to de-activate the remaining coupling elements.

Electromagnetic coupler arrangement

The present invention broadly relates to a multi-layer electromagnetic coupler arrangement, for encoding an RFID tag, suitable for being used in a printing device. The coupler arrangement employs a differential transmission line loop, as a coupling element arranged on a top surface layer of the multi-layer arrangement, which is arranged close to a metallic ground plane layer for shielding on the side opposite the top surface. Coupling is achieved by inductive coupling in the reactive near field and based on the fact that each RFID tag comprises a current loop, itself. The differential property of the transmission line loop is achieved by feeding the terminals of the loop with signal parts having a phase shift of 180&#xb0; with respect to each other. The feeding components are arranged on the opposite side of the ground plane with respect to the top surface layer comprising the current loop. It is possible to arrange plural differential transmission line loops on the top surface layer, in form of a one-or two-dimensional array.

Multi-layer electromagnetic coupler arrangement

An adaptive near field electromagnetic coupler for coupling electromagnetic power to a plane metallic trace (inlay) independently of the inlay geometry and/or orientation without external control algorithms. This is achieved by employing a microstructure of phase altering elements suitable for creating a constant phase field distribution along a top surface of the coupler structure. This is advantageously applicable to printing devices having a function of encoding RFID layers printed on a medium. In view of the provided flexibility, the coupler arrangement can be employed in a variety of printers of different mechanical design.

Adaptive coupler for reactive near field RFID communication

A magnetic coupler arrangement that includes two quarter wave length strip patches, an input signal source, a signal splitter that splits an input signal from the input signal source into two signals and phase-shifts one of the two signals, wherein the phase-shifted signal and the non-phase-shifted signal are fed into the patches of the coupler to achieve a balanced signal configuration.
