A static mixing element for installation in a hollow body () includes a plurality of bar elements, with a first arrangement () including at least one first bar element () and being arranged cross-wise with respect to a second arrangement () which includes at least one second bar element (). The first arrangement () and the second arrangement () include an angle different from 0&#xb0; to the main direction of flow. The first arrangement includes an angle larger than 0&#xb0; with the second arrangement. On projection of the first arrangement () and of the second arrangement () onto a projection plane which is disposed normal to the main direction of flow, intermediate spaces are disposed at least partly between mutually adjacent bar elements.

Static mixing element

The static mixer has a polymorphic structure that can be used for mixing or homogenizing a fluid medium. The mixer has at least two sections arranged in a tube one after the other in the longitudinal direction. Baffles of the first section that are effective to promote mixing redistribute the medium to be mixed largely globally over the entire cross-section of the tube. Baffles of the second section that are effective to promote mixing effect largely local mixing in partial regions, which in each case contain only one part of the tube cross-section. The baffles of both sections have the same or approximately equally large hydraulic diameters.

The infeed points are provided for introducing the additives into a flowing, low viscosity fluid ( ). The static mixing element consists of a pair of vanes ( ) and of a third vane ( ). The vane pair ( ), which forms a restriction deflecting the flow ( &prime;) of the fluid, is formed with substantially mirror symmetry with respect to a central plane ( ) extending in the direction of the flow. The third vane is arranged in a crossing manner with respect to the vane pair and in a lying manner in the region of the central plane. It has a rear side ( ) with respect to the flow which extends from a base at the pipe wall to a downstream end. Each infeed point is arranged at the rear side of the third vane.

A static mixer includes a plurality of mixing chambers for mixing at least two flowable components. The mixing chambers are arranged one behind the other as well as adjacently in a tube along a tube axis. The mixer includes basic mixing chambers and modified mixing chambers. Basic mixing chambers are bounded off from one another by radial walls oriented in the direction of the tube axis and by end walls transverse to the tube axis. Apertures in the radial walls form inputs and outputs between adjacent chambers for the components to be mixed. Modified mixing chambers have structural modifications relative to the basic mixing chambers. In one embodiment, the modification includes adding inclined walls. In another embodiment, the modification includes changing the longitudinal dimension of the chamber relative to the basic mixing chamber.

A static mixer includes profiled layers which are arranged in a ring space and which contain mutually crossing flow channels which are inclined relative to a central axis. A fluid mixture is to be transported in the axial direction in the presence of a mixing action. Each layer extends over a surface which forms a closed or largely closed periphery transverse to the axis. Each layer comprises equivalent channels which extend on an inner or outer side of the layer over at least approximately equally long distances from a first to a second cross-section of the ring space, so that each channel imposes an azimuthal velocity component onto the fluid mixture which flows through it which is substantially equally large for all equivalent channels.

The static laminar mixing device for mixing media of widely different viscosities has two mixers of different cross-sections arranged one after the other with the cross-section of the first mixer being smaller than the second mixer. An admixing device for metering additive of lower viscosity than the medium of the main flow is also provided. This admixing device has a plate which defines a converging orifice for passage of the main flow and additive therethrough into the first mixer while a nozzle is aligned with the orifice for adding the additive flow.

The static mixer contains a bundle of chambered strings (A, B, . . . ) which at least partly comprise mixing-active chambers (A1, A2, . . . ). The bundle is arranged in a tube. The mixing-active chambers extend in the direction of the tube in each case between two closed ends. Two mutually adjacent side walls of the mixing-active chambers contain four alternately disposed passages which produce connections to two chambers lying upstream and downstream. Re-layering chambers are arranged between at least two sections of the mixer which contain mixing-active chambers, each of which has two closed ends and three lateral passages to adjacent chambers. The re-layering chambers occur in pairs, with a direct or an indirect connection being provided via one of the passages in each case.

The mixer tube for low viscosity fluids contains plate-shaped elements which at one or at several points of the tube partially cover or block off its cross-section. The constrictions left free through the elements each comprise at least one gap-shaped region, with a longitudinal extent of this gap extending from tube wall to tube wall through the tube axis or from the tube wall through the tube axis to a second partial region. The gap subtends an angle with the tube axis in the range between about 20.degree. and 60.degree., preferably between 35.degree. and 45.degree.. A mixing path is provided after the constriction in the direction of flow. The fluid to be mixed can contain solid substances in suspension.

Mixer tube for low viscosity fluids

The static mixing element in a flow channel (7) has at least two deflectors (30) disposed on mountings (20) at a distance from the channel wall. The deflectors form an angle W of from 10.degree. to 45.degree. to the main flow direction Z. They have different orientations and the projection FZ of the deflectors in the main flow direction amounts to from 5% to 50% of the channel cross-section F. Cross-flows providing very efficient transverse mixing are therefore produced in a simple manner. When dispensing tubes (20, 21) are used as mountings a very effective mixing device is provided.

The device for mixing a small quantity of fluid (1) into a the main flow of another fluid (2) in a main channel comprises an injection system (3) and a static mixing unit (4, 5) arranged downstream. The inlet cross section (F) of the mixing unit is divided into sub-areas (F1, F2, F3, F4). The injection system consists of main metering pipes with a plurality of directed metering openings (21). The flow quantities through the metering openings are proportional to the component flows through the corresponding associated sub-areas (F1, F2, F3, F4). This results in uniform thorough mixing over a short distance and with a small pressure drop. The mixing device is particularly suitable for Denox plant.
