The grippers are mounted on a doffer bar so as to disengage from both the top and bottom of the bar should a mis-alignment occur relative to a bobbin tube. The removal or separation of a gripper from the bar causes a pneumatic or electrical signal to be generated which can be used to indicate the individual disturbance location. A light may also be provided at each gripper station in order to indicate a position of a disturbance.

A ring spinning machine with various driving systems 10, 12 for driving spindles, driving arrangements, ring rails and the like is regulated in the case of power failure down to a zero revolution range while maintaining preselected revolution relationships. The driving system which is allocated to the load with the greatest effective inertia serves, at first, for the supply of the other driving system in a generator service. Only in a lower revolution range are the driving systems backed via a battery of relatively low capacity.

Ring spinning machine

An apparatus for carrying out a block-change in a ring spinning machine, in which a block of roving bobbins which each supply an associated spinning station are changed together when the rovings wound on the bobbins run out. Preferably, more than one block of roving bobbins is provided. The roving bobbins used to form a block are combined in such a manner that all of them have at least substantially the same length of roving wound on them. The end of the roving on at least one of the bobbins of the block is detected before that end passes through the associated drafting unit, and the block-change is triggered at an instant of time when the roving end has not yet passed through the drafting unit.

An installation comprises two rows of closely adjacent material processing stations and a data-processing system to monitor and/or control the material-processing stations. The installation also has a travelling unit or tender to service the material-processing stations. The tender has a send-receive unit and each material-processing station has a corresponding send-receive unit so that information can pass between the data-processing system and the tender by way of the material-processing stations.

An apparatus for controlling the effective length of thread wound into a thread package during a winding operation includes a sensor which senses the rotation of a driving roller that drives the package being wound and issues signals representative of the number of revolutions, a divider which divides such signals by a divisor that is selectively adjustable by a user, and a counting arrangement which compares the output of the divider with the desired length of the thread wound into the package as selectively set into the counting arrangement by the user. At least one thread package wound to an actual length with the divisor adjusted to a known value is unwound under conditions that are anticipated to exist during the unwinding of the package by the ultimate user, and the effective length of the unwound thread is measured. The measured value is then used for adjusting the divisor of the divider in the event that the measured effective length deviates from the desired effective length. The operation of the counting arrangement is interrupted when there is encountered a break in the thread being wound.

Method and apparatus for controlling the effective length of thread

An arrangement for evaluating the performance of a yarn processing machine including a plurality of yarn processing stations that are individually operatable and each of which includes a monitoring device for the operating conditions thereof and a yarn quality monitoring device capable of detecting yarn quality defects comprises data links which separately supply first signals from the condition monitoring devices and second signals from the yarn quality monitoring devices to an evaluation location. An associating device is situated at the evaluation location, being connected to the data links and operative for associating the second signals which are representative of quality defects with the associated yarn processing stations. The associating device includes two storage devices one of which stores data representative of random yarn breaks at the associated stations while the other stores data representative of quality defects at such stations, and there is further provided an arrangement for entering data into the storage devices in response to those of the second signals which are representative of defective yarn quality at the associated stations, and to those of the first signals which are representative of changes in the conditions of the associated stations that are indicative of yarn breaks at such stations.
