An onboard electrical system for a motor vehicle includes a storage device with at least one first battery pack and a plurality of electrical loads supplied from the storage device. At least one control unit is configured to control the consumption of electrical energy by the remaining electrical loads. A main switch is controlled by the control unit and an auxiliary switch that can be manually activated, so as to connect the control unit with the first battery pack and activate the control unit to send a close command to the main switch.

A power supply system of a motor vehicle includes a first electric system having a first motor vehicle battery and a first consumer. A second electric system includes a second motor vehicle battery and a second consumer. An autonomous switch is configured to connect and separate the first electric system and the second electric system. The autonomous switch connects the first electric system and the second electric system to one another by closing the autonomous switch if a failure or impending failure of the energy supply of the first electric system or the second electric system is detected.

An electrical system includes a direct current (DC) voltage bus, a power supply providing a supply voltage to the DC voltage bus, an electric machine connected to the power supply, a reverse current protection (RCP) circuit positioned between the power supply and the electric machine, the RCP circuit including an energy dissipating element, and a controller. As part of an associated method, the controller detects a reverse current condition in which a current flows from the electric machine toward the power supply when an induced voltage of the electric machine exceeds a voltage level of the voltage bus. The controller transmits a control signal to the RCP circuit to direct the electrical current through the energy dissipating element for a duration of the reverse current condition or for a predetermined duration equal to or greater than that of the reverse current condition.

Electrical system with reverse current protection circuit

A high-voltage ('HV') system for a vehicle is provided, and includes a HV source providing HV power, a low-voltage source, a high-voltage interlock loop ('HVIL') switch, and at least one control module. The low-voltage source provides a low-voltage power that is less than the HV power. The HVIL switch is in communication with the low-voltage source. The HVIL switch includes a reed relay and a magnetic element. The magnetic element is selectively positioned within an actuation distance from the reed relay. The HVIL switch is in a closed circuit condition when the magnetic element is positioned within the actuation distance from the reed relay, and is in an open circuit condition when the magnetic element is positioned outside of the actuation distance from the reed relay. The at least one control module is in communication with and monitors the HVIL switch.
