A gas-insulated high-voltage switching device which includes an arcing contact arrangement having a first arcing zone member and a second arcing zone member that are movable relative to one another along an axis. An auxiliary nozzle surrounds at least a part of a second arcing contact unit and has an auxiliary nozzle throat having an axial extension and allowing passage at least of an end of the first arcing contact unit. A main nozzle throat has an axial extension sideways of the auxiliary nozzle throat and allows passage at least of the end of the first arcing contact unit. A cross-sectional area of the main nozzle throat is substantially decreasing in the direction away from the auxiliary nozzle throat so as to form a substantially converging duct for the flow of an arc-extinguishing gas.

Gas-insulated high-voltage switching device with improved main nozzle

Gas-insulated high voltage puffer breaker comprising a puffer unit with a movable piston running in a puffer cylinder and delimiting a puffer volume. A piston and a first contact member are attached to a piston stem. A piston and a first contact member are attached to a piston stem. An electric arc is extinguishable in an arcing zone when the first contact member moves from a first position to a second position. The puffer volume is fluidly connected to a gas nozzle by a gas channel such that the puffer volume comprises the gas channel as well as a portion of the puffer cylinder. The gas channel is provided radially outside of the puffer cylinder between a puffer cylinder wall delimiting the puffer cylinder and a wall structure of the puffer unit.

A high voltage DC circuit breaker includes a semiconductor switching assembly in series with a mechanical switch. When the semiconductor switching assembly is switched off due to a current fault, a residual current flowing through arresters of the semiconductor switching assembly is switched off by the mechanical switch. A capacitor arranged parallel to the mechanical switch leads to passive resonance effects, which in turn induce current zero crossings in its arc. The current zero crossings allow for reliable extinguishing of the arc. The mechanical switch can be an AC circuit breaker.

A resonance circuit is configured to be connectable in parallel to the series connection of the at least one first switching element and second switching element by means of a switch.

The insulation medium according has high insulation capabilities, in particular a high dielectric strength, and at the same time a low GWP. The invention further includes an insulation medium which is chemically and thermally stable also at temperatures above 140&#xb0; C., which is non-toxic or has a low toxicity level, and which in addition is non-corrosive and non-explosive.
