In an embodiment, adaptive charging of a battery is disclosed. In an embodiment, a device is disclosed comprising: a battery; at least one sensor configured to sense an outward pressure exerted by the battery; a monitoring module configured to monitor the outward pressure of the battery and at least one of a temperature, an age, a manufacturer, a state of charge, an impedance, and number of charging cycles of the battery; a control module configured to select a charging profile for the battery based on at least one of the sensed and/or monitored battery related variables; and a charging module configured to charge the battery according to a charging profile selected by the control module.

Adaptive battery charging

Apparatus includes a first connection to a battery; a second connection to a component; a first path between the first and second connections including a non-upconverting voltage regulator and being absent of a voltage upconverter; a second path between the first and second connections including a voltage upconverter; and a controller. The controller is configured to determine a minimum operating voltage of the component; to determine whether a voltage provided at the first connection meets a predetermined relationship with respect to the minimum operating voltage of the component; and on a positive determination, to enable the first path and disable the second path, and on a negative determination, to disable the first path and enable the second path.

Providing power to a component

The present invention pertains to a method and device for charging a battery at elevated temperatures. More specifically the present invention pertains to a method and a device capable of using the method to charge a battery at elevated temperatures, comprising by determining a temperature of at least one cell of a battery to be charged, and limiting the charging voltage applied to said battery to a maximum charging voltage in accordance with said determined temperature.

Method and device for charging a battery at elevated temperatures

A battery system for a portable electronic device includes a thin wall can structure for holding cathode and anode material and electrolyte defining a battery cell. Current is limited by a safety component integral with a cap assembly that seals the can structure and provides electrical and mechanical connection with a related battery pack engagement and holding arrangement which maintains the battery pack in an operative position in the electronic device. A finger groove is used to lift the battery pack from its operative position. A weakened wall in the finger groove functions as a safety vent and ruptures to release built-up pressure to prevent the battery pack from exploding.
