Wireless communication arrangement

Apparatus, methods, computer software and computer program products are provided for tuning a user equipment antenna to simultaneously operate at more than one resonant frequency by combining a first electrical load and a first frequency selective component to tune the antenna to a first resonant frequency with respect to signals in a first frequency range, and combining a second electrical load and a second frequency selective component to tune the antenna to a second resonant frequency with respect to signals in a second frequency range. The first electrical load, the second electrical load, the first frequency selective component and the second frequency selective component act to tune the antenna to operate simultaneously at the first resonant frequency and the second resonant frequency.

An apparatus including a first port configured to couple to a first location on an antenna; a second port configured to couple to a second location on the antenna; a switch configured to switch between a first electrical configuration in which the first port is coupled to radio circuitry, and a second electrical configuration in which the second port is coupled to the radio circuitry; first reactive circuitry configured to impedance match the antenna with the radio circuitry at a first operational resonant frequency band; and second reactive circuitry, different to the first reactive circuitry, and configured to impedance match the antenna with the radio circuitry at a second operational resonant frequency band, different to the first operational resonant frequency band.

Apparatus with antenna and method for wireless communication

First, second and third feed ports interface to an antenna that has an impedance disposed between its ends which are defined by the first and second feed ports. The third feed port interfaces to the antenna at an intermediate point between the ends. In a first mode (balanced mode) the impedance enables signals to/from the first and second feed ports to resonate along the whole of the antenna, and in a second mode the impedance enables signals to/from the third feed port to resonate along a portion of the antenna, the portion terminating at the impedance. In embodiments, the first mode is for RFID signals and the second mode is for any one or more of Bluetooth/WLAN/GPS/FM signals. The first and second mode may operate simultaneously. Also detailed is a method for making an electronic device having such an antenna.

Multiprotocol antenna for wireless systems

An apparatus such as for example an antenna sub-assembly includes a multiband antenna circuitry and feed circuitry. The multiband antenna circuitry includes a resonator; a first ground port configured to couple the resonator to a common voltage potential; and at least one reactive component disposed between the resonator and the first ground port. The feed circuitry includes: a signal feed port configured to couple to a radio; a second ground port configured to couple the feed circuitry to the common voltage potential; and a feeding element disposed between the signal feed port and the second ground port, the feeding element configured to inductively couple the feed circuitry to the antenna circuitry between the resonator and the first ground port. In some example embodiments there is a variable reactance to enable the resonator to be tunable. In those and/or other embodiments there is a second and even a third resonator for multi-band operation.

A mobile communication device () is provided with an antenna () having an antenna element () and a conductive ground element () to cooperate with the antenna element. In use, RF currents are generated in the conductive ground element and as a result an oscillating electric field arises. The conductive ground element is arranged in the device () such that the point of highest electric field is located away from the region where the earpiece () is positioned in order to reduce the emission of the electric field to the ear (). The conductive ground element () may be provided in a conductive layer of the Printed Circuit/Wire Board () of the device. The point of highest electric field in a in a conductive layer arises at the end of the physical path near a physical end of the layer, which in a conventional flip-phone typically corresponds to the top of the first hinged body part () where the earpiece () is also positioned. According to the invention, the layer is serpentine shaped and arranged such that the end of the electrical path of the Printed Circuit/Wire Board is located approximately half a wavelength of the oscillating field away from the area of the earpiece. Alternatively, tracks or wires () acting as ground extensions may be connected to the ground plane () to move the end of the electrical path and the high electric field away from the region of the earpiece.

Mobile communication device with reduced electric field emission levels near the earpiece

A GPS antenna has two electrically connected L-sections disposed on opposite sides of a circuit board. The L-sections lie on two separate planes parallel to the circuit board surface. One L-section is connected to a feeding point located at one edge area of the circuit board and the other L-section is connected to a grounding point located at an opposite edge area of the circuit board. Optionally, a second grounding point is connected to the antenna element adjacent to the feeding point for impedance matching purposes. The antenna is configured for use in an electronic device such as a mobile phone.

Antenna for a portable device

A headset has a first and an optional second earpiecerespectively coupled to a plugvia first and an optional second conductors. An antenna loop sectionhas a first loop sectionat least partially bound to a portion of the first conductor, and a second loop sectionbound to at least a portion of the second conductor. Where bound, the first conductor and first loop section may be coaxial or side-by-side. The loop sections include inductors, and the conductors include ferrite ringsnear the earpieces. A connectormechanically holds the first and second conductors in proximity to one another, and also includes a conductive bridgeto electrically couple the first and second loop segments, which may be via a contact connection or a capacitive connection. Audio and RF signals are separated by frequency in a deviceto which the headset is coupled.

Headset loop antenna

The invention relates to power amplifiers having an adjustable output impedance. A power amplifier according to the invention can be used, for example, for feeding a radio frequency transmission signal into an antenna of a mobile communication device. The real part of an output impedance of a power amplifier according to the invention is matched with the real part of an impedance loading the power amplifier by adjusting an operating point of an output stage transistorof the power amplifier.

Method and arrangement for adjusting an output impedance of a power amplifier

An antenna module for use in a small communications device. The antenna module comprises a dielectric block disposed on a circuit board having a ground plane, an elongated planar strip element folded to fit on different surfaces of the dielectric block, and one or more parasitic element disposed adjacent to the antenna element. In particular, the antenna element is designed to produce resonance frequencies at GSM850 and E-GSM900 bands (the lower bands) and one resonance for the GSM1800/GSM1900/WCDMA2100 bands (the upper bands).
