Devices and methods for electrochemical phase transfer utilize at least one electrode formed from either glassy carbon or a carbon and polymer composite. The device includes a device housing defining an inlet port (), an outlet port () and an elongate fluid passageway () extending therebetween. A capture electrode () and a counter electrode are positioned within said housing such that the fluid passageway extends between the capture and counter electrodes.

Electrochemical phase transfer devices and methods

A nebulizer assembly configured for removable attachment to an ultrasonic actuator includes a base plate portion, a porous mesh member, and a cover member. The base plate portion includes an opening extending therethrough, and is substantially rigid such that ultrasonic vibrations from the ultrasonic actuator may be transmitted through the base plate portion to the porous mesh member to vibrate the porous mesh member. The porous mesh member is configured for passage therethrough of a nebulized fluid, and is disposed in the opening of the base plate portion proximate a fluid emission side of the nebulizer assembly. The cover member is disposed on a second side of the nebulizer assembly opposite the fluid emission side. The cover member covers the opening and defines a cavity between the cover member and the porous mesh member. The cavity is configured to retain a fluid to be nebulized.

Nebulizer systems and methods

The present disclosure relates to methods for manufacturing porous mesh plates for use in ultrasonic mesh nebulizers, and the porous mesh plates manufactured by those methods. Cone-shaped dimples are first drilled in a substrate (e.g. a plate), but do not penetrate the bottom of the substrate. Next, the substrate (e.g. a plate) is subject to an electrochemical process to remove a layer of material from the surface of the substrate. Enough material is removed to allow the dimples to penetrate the substrate, thereby creating holes in the substrate. The size of the holes can be controlled by the conditions of the electrochemical process.

Method for manufacturing fluid handling discs with porous mesh plates for use in ultrasonic mesh nebulizers

A system for monitoring a subsea structure is presented. The system includes a sensor disposed on or about one or more tubular components of the subsea structure, where the one or more tubular components of the subsea structure include a riser, a flow-line, and a subsea umbilical. Moreover, the system includes a controller operatively coupled to the one or more tubular components of the subsea structure and configured to detect an anomaly in the one or more tubular components of the subsea structure. A method for monitoring the subsea structure is also presented.

A fluid connector device is provided. The fluid connector device includes a coupling substrate having a conformal recess, a reconnectable fitting disposed in the recess to provide a first passageway, and a force applying element operatively coupled to the reconnectable fitting, or the coupling substrate, or both the reconnectable fitting and the coupling substrate to at least partially provide a sealing force between the reconnectable fitting and the coupling substrate, wherein at least one of the force applying element, the reconnectable fitting, and the coupling substrate comprises one or more degrees of freedom for self alignment of the reconnectable fitting and the conformal recess.

Fluid connector devices and methods of making and using the same

A system includes a device and a contactless inductive force sensing system. The device includes a first band having a first magnetically encoded region with a first magnetic polarity spaced apart from a second magnetically encoded region having a second magnetic polarity. The device further includes a second band having a third magnetically encoded region with the second magnetic polarity spaced apart from a fourth magnetically encoded region having the first magnetic polarity. The contactless inductive force sensing system is used for measuring one or more mechanical force components of the device and generating a mechanical force component signal.

Mechanical force components sensing system and an associated method thereof for a magnetically encoded device

A microvalve assembly () includes an elongate valve body () having opposed first and second major surfaces, the first major surface defining a valve recess () and the second major surface defining first and second fluid ports (). Both the fluid input port and the fluid output port extend in fluid communication with the valve recess. A gasket () is freely positioned within the valve recess so as to extend in overlying registry with either or both of fluid ports. A valve cover () is bonded to the valve body and includes a first planar surface positioned in overlying registry with the valve recess so as to enclose the gasket therein. The valve cover is deflectable into the valve recess so as to cause the gasket to seal at least one of the fluid ports.

A multi-stream optical interrogation flow cell () for a radiopharmaceutical includes a multiple flow cell body (-) defining a first elongate fluid flowpath (A-B-) therethrough for individually conducting a radiopharmaceutical therethrough in fluid isolation from other of the flow cell bodies. Each flow cell body further defines a first and second aligned UV transparent optical guides () and a first interrogation passageway (-) extending between the first and second optical guides such that a portion of the elongate first fluid flowpath intersects the interrogation passageway such that the radiopharmaceutical flows in between the first and second optical guides. The first and second interrogation passageways of all of the flow cell bodies are optically aligned so that a single interrogation beam is able to extend through each of the interrogation passageways.

Multi-stream spectrophotometer module

Magnetically encoded shafts for use in detecting forces exerted on the shaft during operation. Magnetically encoded regions, arranged in tracks or bands, encircle the shaft and are formed within or affixed to the shaft. The magnetically encoded regions define force-sensitive regions therebetween. Magnetic fields surround the force-sensitive regions and are altered by force vectors passing through the force sensitive region. These magnetic fields are sensed by magnetic field sensors to determine various shaft parameters including, for example: shaft rotational speed, shaft rotational position, and forces exerted on the shaft, e.g., torque, bending forces, stress forces and strain forces. To provide continuous detection of shaft operational parameters and forces, dead zones between magnetically encoded regions are aligned with force sensitive regions associated with magnetically encoded regions in other bands.

Method and apparatus for continuous sectional magnetic encoding to measure torque on large shafts

A lightning detection and damage estimation system for a structure is disclosed herein. The system includes a lightning receptor coupled to a lightning conductor configured to receive multiple lightning strikes and induce lightning current in a pick-up coil coupled to the lightning conductor. An integrated circuit coupled to the lightning conductor via the pick-up coil includes a non-volatile memory for successively storing one or more samples of the lightning induced current for the multiple lightning strikes. A damage estimation unit is configured to estimate a condition of the structure based on analyzing a history of stored samples of the lightning induced current of the multiple lightning strikes from the non-volatile memory.

System, device, and method for detecting electrical discharges on a structure

A magnetically spirally encoded shaft and magnetic field detecting system includes first, second, third and fourth magnetically encoded bands spirally encircling a circumference of the shaft. Each band includes first magnetically encoded regions having a first magnetic polarity alternating with second magnetically encoded regions having a second magnetic polarity. Dead zones are defined in each band between successive first and second magnetically encoded regions. The shaft is for use with a first fixed magnetic field sensor for detecting magnetic fields in the force-sensitive regions, wherein one or more of rotational speed, shaft rotational position, bending forces, torque forces, stress forces and strain forces can be determined responsive to detected magnetic fields.

A vehicle includes a power connector configured to mate with an electrical power grid receptacle and receive a grid power therefrom and a heating and cooling system electrically connected to the power connector to receive grid power therefrom and configured to modify a temperature the vehicle cabin. The vehicle also includes a temperature control loop configured to selectively activate and control the heating and cooling system and a controller configured to receive a first input signal comprising a desired vehicle activation time and a second input signal comprising a starting vehicle cabin temperature and a desired vehicle cabin temperature. The controller determines a temperature control loop activation time based on the first and second input signals that is prior to the desired vehicle activation time and transmits an activation signal to the temperature control loop at the temperature control loop activation time to activate the heating and cooling system.

System and method for vehicle temperature control

A system and method for managing optical power for controlling thermal alteration of a sample undergoing spectroscopic analysis is provided. The system includes a moveable laser beam generator for irradiating the sample and a beam shaping device for moving and shaping the laser beam to prevent thermal overload or build up in the sample. The moveable laser beam generator includes at least one beam shaping device selected from the group consisting of at least one optical lens, at least one optical diffractor, at least one optical path difference modulator, at least one moveable mirror, at least one Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) integrated circuit (IC), and/or a liquid droplet.
