A treatment method for non-ablative tissue regeneration includes directing at least one laser pulse having a wavelength onto a tissue surface of a human or animal body, and controlling an energy delivery time tof the at least one laser pulse, during which the second half of the pulse energy is delivered, to be sufficiently short, so that, given the wavelength and thus a corresponding penetration depth δ of the at least one laser pulse, a thermal exposure time tof the tissue surface is smaller than 900 microseconds. The thermal exposure time tof the tissue surface is defined as a time interval in which the temperature of the tissue surface is above T+(T−T)/, wherein Tdefines the initial temperature of the tissue surface, before the laser pulse arrives, and Tis a maximal temperature of the tissue surface.

Apparatus and method for tissue regeneration

An apparatus for cooling tissues which are treated with an energy-based device, such as a laser, is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a spray nozzle which generates an atomized liquid spray for the treatment area, wherein the atomized liquid spray is based on a mixture of liquid and gas. Further, the spray nozzle comprises at least one liquid outlet which ejects a liquid, and at least one gas outlet which ejects a gas stream. Besides, the apparatus for cooling comprises at least one delivery means for delivering pressurized gas to the spray nozzle; and a pumping means for the liquid, wherein the pumping means is configured to operate in pulses.

The apparatus comprises means for generating at least one laser pulse comprising a wavelength; and means for directing the at least one laser pulse onto a tissue surface of a human or animal body, wherein the means for generating comprises control means to ensure that a sum of the pulse energies of the at least one laser pulse is selected so that the corresponding fluence on the tissue surface heats the tissue surface up to a maximal temperature Tbetween 70&#xb0; C. and a tissue boiling temperature T. Further, the means for generating of the apparatus are adapted so that a delivery time tof the at least one laser pulse (during which the second half of the pulse energy is delivered) is sufficiently short so that, given the wavelength and thus a corresponding penetration depth &#x3b4; of the at least one laser pulse, a thermal exposure time tof the tissue surface is shorter than 900 microseconds. Here, the thermal exposure time tof the tissue surface is defined as a time interval in which the temperature of the tissue surface is above T+(T&#x2212;T)/2, wherein Tdefines the initial temperature of the tissue surface, before the laser pulse arrives.

A laser treatment head guides a laser beam to a target area within a body cavity and includes a laser output element having a deflection element. The laser output element with deflection element is rotatable relative to a guide element about an axis. First and second thread elements mutually engage to cause the deflection element to perform a combined axial and rotational movement relative to the guide element. A control unit and the laser treatment head are configured such that the target area is irradiated by individual pulses (p) in a helical pattern of irradiation spots over a section of the circumference of the body cavity. The control unit is further configured such that reference locations (X) on the target area are irradiated by an individual pulse number (N) of subsequent pulses (p), thereby heating the mucosa tissue within the target area to a predetermined temperature.

Laser system and laser treatment head therefor

A laser system for body tissue treatment has laser source, control device, scanner, and handpiece with treatment head transparent to the laser beam. An incoming laser beam section enters the treatment head longitudinally. The treatment head has a conical output surface with a minimum and a maximum surface radius and a half opening angle for total reflection of the incoming beam section. The reflected beam section is refracted radially into an emerging beam section away from the treatment head through the output surface. The incoming beam section has at the output surface a mean diameter that is &#x2266;a difference of maximum surface radius and minimum scanning radius. A conical scanning surface as a part of the conical output surface extends from the minimum scanning radius to the maximum surface radius. The control device controls the scanner for scanning the conical scanning surface with the incoming beam section.

Laser system and method for the treatment of body tissue

A dental irrigation system is provided with a laser source for generating a laser beam and an optical delivery system for the laser beam. The laser beam wavelength ranges from 0.4 &#x3bc;m to 11.0 &#x3bc;m. The laser system operates in pulsed operation with pulse sets of 2 to 20 individual pulses of temporally limited pulse length. The pulse sets follow one another with temporal separation. The individual pulses follow one another with pulse repetition rate. The laser system generates at least one vapor bubble within the liquid irradiated with the laser beam. A single pulse causes the vapor bubble to oscillate between a maximal and a minimal volume with a bubble oscillation frequency. The pulse repetition rate within one pulse set is adjusted relative to the bubble oscillation frequency such that synchronization between delivery of the pulses and bubble oscillation is achieved.

Laser system and method for operating the laser system

A laser system has a laser source for generating a laser beam, a control unit, and a hand piece for manually guiding the laser beam onto a target area. A wavelength (&#x3bb;) of the laser beam is in a range from above 1.9 &#x3bc;m to 11.0 &#x3bc;m inclusive. The laser system is adapted for a thermal, non ablative treatment of mucosa tissue by the laser beam such, that the laser source generates the laser beam in single pulses with a pulse duration (t) in a range from 1.0 &#x3bc;s, inclusive, to 1.0 sec, inclusive, and that a fluence of each of the single pulses on the target area of the mucosa tissue is in a range from 0.2 J/cm, inclusive, to 2.5 J/cm, inclusive, and preferably in a range from 1.40 J/cm, inclusive, to 1.95 J/cm, inclusive.

Laser system for non ablative treatment of mucosa tissue

A laser system has a laser source generating a laser beam, wherein the laser source is adapted for medical removal of body tissue by the laser beam within a predetermined treatment contour. A guide frame in the shape of the treatment contour is provided. A scanner is provided for completely scanning a base surface of the guide frame with the laser beam, wherein the scanner is arranged between the laser source and the guide frame in a path of the laser beam.
