A system, apparatus, and method are disclosed for providing quality of service (QoS) for a network data connection. The network data connection uses a network protocol selectable from a plurality of network protocols. A QoS module can receive a request for a generic QoS and apply this to the network protocol using a specific QoS associated with the protocol. The QoS module may include features for automatic management of QoS and a user interface for changing data connection parameters.

Apparatus and method for providing quality of service for a network data connection

A method and system for activating a context in a first network so as to transfer a call via said first network and a second network is provided. The method may include receiving a setup message according to an application protocol using a signaling or default context within a network, determining capability information based on the message according to the application protocol and activating a context using the determined capability information. The application protocol may be setup before activating the context.

Method and system for activating a packet data subscriber context for packet data

The invention relates to a method for managing Quality of Service (QoS) in a packet network (). The method comprises feeding a predetermined information flow into the packet network. () for measurement purposes and measuring the characteristics of said information flow by means of a continual measurement for producing QoS information. Said Qos information is used to control communications traffic in the packet network () in order to manage the Quality of Service (QoS) of the packet network (). Method and system for managing quality of service by feeding information into the packet network

According to an embodiment of the present invention, a system is provided that includes a cellular network, a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and a mobile IP-telephony network (MIPTN). Both the cellular network and the MIPTN include a Home Function and one or more visited Functions. MIPTN subscribers can roam within the MIPTN. Also, a Gateway Function interfaces the PSTN and the MIPTN to allow roaming between the cellular network and the MIPTN. The Gateway Function performs a dynamic mapping function between PSTN/cellular addresses (e.g., in E.164 format) and MIPTN addresses (e.g., IP addresses) to allow registration and call delivery for subscribers roaming between the cellular network and the MIPTN. A similar type of Gateway Function also allows Short Message Service (SMS) messages to be delivered over the MIPTN as well.

Mobility within a packet-switched telephony network

The present invention relates to a method and system for activating a context in a first network so as to transfer a call and/or a transaction via said first network and a second network. Initially, an application protocol such as H.323, H.248 or SIP is set up using a signaling or default context within the first network. Based on a message of the application protocol transmitted from the second network, a capability information is determined and used to activate the context. Thereby, the capabilities can be agreed in advance and the context can be activated e.g. as a secondary context for both mobile-originated and mobile-terminated calls and/or transactions. Accordingly, a reservation protocol is no longer required to signal the capability requirements to the second network, and signaling load can be decreased.

An apparatus for providing information services to a user includes a microserver disposed at the user's home or office. The microserver is connected to a communication network which is connected to a global computer network, and the user's mobile or fixed telephone terminal. At least one service server is connected to the user's mobile or fixed terminal via the global computer network, the communication network and the microserver. Through the disposition of microserver at the user's primary location, the service server can transmit general or user specific service information to the user via their mobile and/or fixed terminal. The problems of localization of the user are eliminated by the implementation of the microsever at the user's primary communication location.

Apparatus for providing information services to a telecommunication device user

Apparatus, and an associated method, forms an integrated packet radio communication system. An integrated system is formed of portions of a GPRS system as well as portions of a WLAN system, such as that defined in the IEEE 802.11 standard. A WIP (WLAN Integrated Protocol) layer is defined, functionally positioned between upper-level, GPRS layers and lower-level, WLAN layers. Advantages of a GPRS system as well as advantages of the WLAN system are maintained in the integrated system.

A system and method of providing flexible QoS actions through communication to neighboring network elements of the local QoS actions taken by the local network element. The neighboring network elements may then take into account the QoS actions taken by the local network element when the neighboring network elements are contemplating their own QoS actions to be taken. Thus, a limited range of visibility of QoS actions facilitates subsequent QoS actions taken by the network elements within the limited range of visibility.
