A method for setting spreading code delays in RAKE receiver branches include, for instance: determining solutions for the code delays that include a code delay candidate for the branch to be processed and for in the order of delay preceding branches. The solutions maximize the sum of the signal strengths in the branch to be processed and in the preceding branches. The method also includes that the delays of the branches are selected in accordance with the last determined solution.

Data transmission method and receiver

The present invention relates to a method and a circuitry for estimating a spreading factor and/or data transmission rate in a communication system that employs variable data transmission rates. A received transmission signal is analyzed in order to estimate noise variances for those spreading factors that are possible for a data frame in the signal. The estimate is based on information that is determined by assuming that the smallest possible spreading factor was used for the transmission of the signal. The estimates are then scaled by predefined constants, each of the constants depending on the respective possible spreading factor. The smallest one of the scaled estimates is determined, whereafter the most probable spreading factor of the received data frame is determined based on the smallest variance estimate.

Data rate estimation in a communication system

An iterative Turbo decoder in which soft bits of a received signal are repetitively subjected to the process of decoding by a first decoder associated with a first encoder in the transmitter, interleaving by an interleaver associated with an interleaver in the transmitter, decoding by a second decoder associated with a second encoder in the transmitter, and deinterleaving by a deinterleaver associated with the interleaver in the transmitter. The improvement is to scale the signal after each decoding by a predetermined value in the vicinity of 0.7 to 0.8. At a signal Eb/No in the vicinity of 1.0 db., an improvement of about 0.2 db. in coding gain is attained while very little complexity is added. Decoders may be according to the max Log MAP algorithm instead of the more complex Log MAP algorithm with only slight degradation of performance.

Scaled-feedback turbo decoder

The invention relates to a method of channel allocation in a fixed radio link network. For each radio link to be commissioned channels, interference level measurement on each available channel of the frequency band is carried out. Based on the interference measurements, best transmission and reception channel for the link are selected. Thereafter, the radio link can be commissioned and measurements in the next radio link to be commissioned can be started. Instead of using a fixed and pre-set channel for the fixed radio link, a channel is assigned autonomously and automatically when commissioning the link, depending on interference measurement results and/or distance measurement results. The possibility for automatic channel selection decreases the amount of commissioning work by removing the need for detailed frequency planning and fixed channel setting at the factory for each radio.
