In a telecommunications system, in which a connection comprises a part with an interworking function at both ends, a channel is allocated to the connection between the interworking functions. The required channel capabilities may vary during the connection, whereby the channel capabilities should be changed. When the first interworking function detects that a channel capability must be changed, a first message, which indicates the desired capability change, is transmitted (-) to the second interworking function; and the channel capability is changed (--) into the desired one at both ends of the part.

Changing of channel capabilities

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for concealing the true identity of a user in a communications system comprising a first user equipment having a first characteristic identifier, a second user equipment having a second characteristic identifier, a service network serving the first and the second user equipment. The method according to the invention comprises: requesting a virtual identifier by means of the first user equipment; establishing the virtual identifier for the first user equipment; linking the virtual identifier of the first user equipment to the first characteristic identifier of the first user equipment and using the virtual identifier of the first user equipment for communication between the first and the second user equipment.

Method for implementing time switching and a time switch

A time switch and a method for implementing time switching for signals of several different levels of hierarchy. The signals having a common frame structure which can be divided into blocks of different sizes, the blocks being switched differently from one another. According to the method, the contents of the time slots of an incoming signal are written into a memory, from which they are read at the memory locations indicated by switching data contained in an address control memory. In order that the time switching can be implemented in a more simplified manner than before, the contents of all time slots of a frame are continuously written into one memory block without synchronizing the writing with the frame.
