A method for mounting a camshaft in a bearing line of a cylinder head cover of an internal combustion engine may involve mounting a sealing ring in a groove extending radially circumferentially on an outer diameter of the camshaft. The sealing ring may be at least partly formed of an elastically deformable polymer such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The method may further involve sliding a calibrating tool having a rotationally symmetrical opening onto the camshaft or sliding the camshaft into the calibrating tool. A smallest inside diameter of the rotationally symmetrical opening may be greater than an outside diameter of the camshaft in a region of the groove but less than an outside diameter of the sealing ring. Consequently, the sealing ring is pressed into the groove and is frictionally and interlockingly held in the groove.

A camshaft may comprise a main shaft, on which at least two sliding cam pieces are accommodated in a rotationally fixed and axially displaceable manner, wherein the sliding cam pieces each comprise a carrier tube, on which are seated cam groups each comprising at least two cam tracks for valve-control purposes, as well as an adjustment element that can be brought into operative connection with an actuator for axial displacement of the two sliding cam pieces. A method for assembling such a camshaft may involve providing a module body with bearing bridges that receive the camshaft in a rotatable manner, inserting a first sliding cam piece into a first bearing bridge, connecting the first sliding cam piece to the adjustment element, inserting a second sliding cam piece into a second bearing bridge, and connecting the second sliding cam piece to the adjustment element with the aid of an axial adjustment distance of at least one of the sliding cam pieces in the bearing bridges.

Method for assembling a camshaft in a module body

A method for producing a ready-for-use camshaft for controlling valves of an internal combustion engine may be directed towards camshafts that include a carrier shaft on which an end component, for example, a drive wheel, a phase adjuster, or a part of a phase adjuster, is arranged and cam elements that are attached in a positionally fixed manner to the carrier shaft. In some examples, the method comprises providing a carrier shaft and an end component, joining the end component to the carrier shaft, grinding at least the carrier shaft to form cam seats so as to establish readiness for use, introducing a surface profile into a first cam seat, providing a cam element with ready-for-use characteristics, seating the cam element on the cam seat with the surface profile, and repeating certain steps for additional cam elements.

Method for producing a camshaft assembly

A method for mounting a camshaft module may involve a module that includes a module cover in which a camshaft is accommodated. The camshaft may comprise a main shaft and a plurality of displacement elements with cam tracks formed thereon for valve-control purposes. The displacement elements may be arranged at predetermined positions in the module cover. The main shaft may be guided along a shaft axis through accommodating passages of the displacement elements. The method may involve arranging a first displacement element in the module cover, introducing the main shaft into the module cover and guiding the main shaft through the accommodating passage of the first displacement element, arranging a second displacement element in the module cover, rotating the main shaft about the shaft axis by an angular amount, and advancing and guiding the main shaft through the accommodating passage of the second displacement element. Further, the displacement elements are arranged in the model cover with an identical rotary orientation about the shaft axis.

Method for installing a camshaft module

A camshaft may include a support shaft and a component with a passage opening that receives the support shaft. The support shaft may include fastening regions and positioning regions alternating in an axial direction. A diameter of the support shaft in the fastening regions may be greater than a diameter of the support shaft in the positioning regions. Furthermore, the passage opening of the component may include axially spaced fastening sections with positioning sections arranged between pairs of the fastening sections. A diameter of the passage opening in the fastening sections may be smaller than a diameter of the passage opening in the positioning sections. Further, the diameter of the support shaft in the positioning regions may be smaller than the diameter of the passage opening in the fastening sections, and the diameter of the support shaft in the fastening regions may be smaller than the diameter of the passage opening in the positioning sections.

Method for assembling a camshaft

A method for arranging a camshaft in a camshaft module includes arranging cam elements and a switching element on a carrier tube to so as to form a displacement element having a bearing section, outside or external to a module housing. The carrier tube is then cut in a region of a bearing section to form two parts. One of the parts is arranged into a bearing bridge in a module housing. The other part is then joined to the first part that was inserted into the bearing bridge.

Method for arranging a camshaft in a camshaft module

A camshaft for a multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine may include a sliding element comprising at least two cam elements, as well as a splined shaft that extends in an axial direction and on which the sliding element is received. The sliding element may comprise an internal spline system that interacts with an external spline system of the splined shaft such that the sliding element is seated fixedly on the splined shaft so as to rotate with the splined shaft. The sliding element may be received on the splined shaft such that the sliding element can, at least initially, be displaced axially. For axially-fixing the sliding element to the splined shaft, the sliding element may include a positively locking connection that is configured in the axial direction and is produced by way of at least one calked connection between the sliding element and the splined shaft. It should be understood that many camshafts include more than one sliding element.

An adjustable camshaft for a valve drive of an internal combustion engine may include an inner shaft extending through an outer shaft with a cam element disposed on the outer shaft. The cam element may be connected rotationally conjointly to the inner shaft. The cam element may have a shaft passage with an internal bearing surface, which, together with a bearing surface on an outer side of the outer shaft, forms a plain bearing arrangement for the rotatable arrangement of the cam element on the outer shaft. The bearing surface on the outer side of the outer shaft and/or the internal bearing surface of the shaft passage of the cam element may include one or more sections with a spherical shape.
